Why did China Merchants Bank merge with China Merchants Bank?

China Merchants Bank did not merge with China Merchants Bank, which has little to do with it.

China Merchants was formerly known as Shekou China Merchants Port Co., Ltd., and its main business was real estate development. China Merchants Bank is the first joint venture bank in China controlled by an enterprise legal person, and its main business is financial deposit and loan business.

China Merchants Bank was established in Shekou, Shenzhen, 1987. It is the first joint-stock commercial bank wholly owned by an enterprise legal person in China and the first pilot bank to promote banking reform from outside the system. The development goal of China Merchants Bank is to become a leading retail bank in China.
