Extended data

Changchun is located in Songliao Plain, the hinterland of China Northeast Plain, adjacent to Songyuan City in the northwest, Siping City in the southwest, Jilin City in the southeast and Harbin City in Heilongjiang Province in the northeast. It is the natural geographical center of northeast China, an important node city of the Belt and Road northbound route, a node city of China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor, a strategic hinterland city of Changji-Tumen, and a core city of Harbin-Changzhou urban agglomeration.

The surface water in Changchun City belongs to Songhua River system, the middle and lower reaches of Songhua River, Yinma River and Yitong River, as well as Mushi River, Shuangyang River, Wukai River, Xinkai River and Katcha River. There are seven bubble lakes, such as Polo bubble, Aobaotu bubble and Yuanbao bubble. For urban surface water, the larger rivers are Songhua River tributary and Yinma River-Yitong River and its tributary-Xinkai River. Because the bedrock in the lower part of the urban area is Mesozoic Cretaceous red rock series, the rock stratum is dense, impermeable or has little water content, so there is no deep groundwater source and the groundwater is poor.

Changchun has a vast territory and rich land resources. The main soil types are black soil, meadow soil and chernozem, accounting for 34.5%, 29.06% and 15.28% of the cultivated land area respectively. The soil is fertile, generally the black soil layer is 0.6m ~ 1.0m thick. There are 12 soil types, 38 subtypes, 64 soil genera and 190 soil types in Changchun, and their formation and distribution are obviously transitional.
