Wu Chi 1932 graduated from Hangzhou Huilan Middle School and was admitted to the Chemistry Department of Tsinghua University Science College. During his school days, he studied hard and made great achievements. He is an excellent student in the Faculty of Science and won a scholarship. He was also full of patriotic enthusiasm, participated in the anti-Japanese national salvation movement, and was detained by the Peiping police. He was released on bail after repeated negotiations by the school. /kloc-0 graduated from Tsinghua University in the autumn of 936 and entered the Institute of Chemistry of Shanghai Academia Sinica with excellent results. In the same year, he won the Tsinghua University Scholarship to study in the United States. It was scheduled to go to the United States in August 1937, but the Japanese invaders invaded China on a large scale. He believes that China was invaded and humiliated because the country was too poor and backward. Under the guidance of the thought of saving the country by industry and saving the country by science, with his love for the motherland and the entrustment of his relatives, he traveled across the ocean and studied abroad in order to make achievements in his studies and contribute to the rejuvenation of China.
Wu Chi systematically studied chemical engineering while studying at MIT, and obtained a master's degree with the score of 1939. He attaches great importance to integrating theory with practice. In order to learn more practical knowledge of production, he gave up the opportunity to study for a doctorate and resolutely joined the chemical engineering practice school run by the college. Under the guidance of the teacher, he used his theoretical knowledge to help the factory solve problems in production, improve production technology, improve product quality and cultivate his ability to solve practical problems in many ways. Soon, he was hired by new york World Trade Company and Foster Wheeler Company, and worked as an engineer for 10 years. During this period, he did technical work under the direct leadership of Hou, and worked as an intern in several large chemical plants in the United States and Canada. In my spare time, I also studied the course of Electrical Machinery and Automation, which enriched my theoretical knowledge and practical experience and laid a good foundation for my future work.
The establishment of the new China has made Wu Chi, who is far away from home, see the hope and bright future of the motherland. He resolutely gave up his superior living conditions and high-paying position, and happily accepted the appointment of a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua University. Before returning to China in 1950, he sorted out his accumulated practical experience and a large number of documents in the United States 10, and analyzed and compared the present situation of chemical industry in the United States and Europe. On this basis, he cooperated with Shi (a famous Chinese-American engineer) to compile the textbook Basic Chemical Technology with hundreds of thousands of words, which made full preparations for returning to China to teach.
After returning home, Wu Chi actively participated in the establishment of Tsinghua University Petroleum Department. Soon, colleges and universities all over the country were readjusted. Together with other comrades, he participated in the establishment of Beijing Petroleum Institute based on Tsinghua University Petroleum Department. He has served as a professor, dean, deputy provost and tutor of graduate students, and has trained a large number of scientific and technological talents for the development of oil refining industry.
From 65438 to 0958, Wu Chi was transferred as the chief engineer of the production technology department of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry, responsible for the organization and management of production technology. He has done a lot of organizational work in rational utilization of Daqing crude oil resources, strengthening the potential transformation of refineries, improving the production capacity and product quality of refineries, and adopting the industrial application of the new refining process "Five Golden Flowers".
65438-0966 During the battle of cis-butadiene rubber in Jinzhou No.6 Petroleum Plant, Wu Chi served as deputy commander and was fully responsible for technical leadership. After several months of fighting day and night, he provided reliable data for the design of 10,000-ton industrial production equipment. 1969 was shocked by the "cultural revolution" and sent the May 7th cadre school to work. 65438-0972 returned to Beijing to resume work, and served as vice president and chief engineer of Petrochemical Research Institute of Ministry of Combustion and Chemical Industry. Overall responsible for scientific research planning and development, personally presided over the development of new processes such as catalytic reforming and riser catalytic cracking. This technology has achieved great economic benefits in industrial production and won the award of the National Science Conference.
After 1983, people get older and weaker, especially pulmonary heart disease. However, in the case of extremely inconvenient movement, he still devoted himself to scientific research, tirelessly read documents and patents, and even wrote suggestions and long-term ideas for scientific research work in the whole hospital while inhaling oxygen at home. This feeling is deep. Due to overwork, the condition deteriorated and the rescue was invalid. Unfortunately, he died in 1 March, 9881.
Wu Chi is a representative of the Third National People's Congress, honorary director of China Petroleum Institute and director of China Chemical Industry Society. He devoted his life to the development of petroleum refining and petrochemical technology in China. He is an educator with both ability and political integrity and an outstanding expert in science and technology.
