Nanjing Forestry University is located at the foothills of Zijin Mountain and on the bank of Xuanwu Lake. It is a multidisciplinary university jointly established by the central and local governments and mainly managed by local governments. It was formerly known as Central University (founded in 1902). The Department and the Forestry Department of Jinling University (founded in 1888) merged to form Nanjing Forestry College in 1952. In 1955, the Forestry Department of Huazhong Agricultural College (formed by the merger of Wuhan University, Nanchang University and the Forestry Department of Hubei Agricultural College) was merged. In 1972, it was renamed Nanjing College of Forestry Products Industry, the name of Nanjing Forestry College was restored in 1983, and renamed Nanjing Forestry University in 1985.
