Canine distemper is now difficult to breathe. Can it be cured? How can it be cured?

When you read this article, you may have seen it elsewhere before, but this article was indeed edited and rewritten by me! First, let me talk about the medical history!

My Huhu is a Chow Chow puppy. He was more than 2 months old when he was brought home from the dog market. Within two days of his return, a "catastrophe" began (you must pay attention to the dogs purchased at the dog market. Canine distemper is generally not easy to see during the incubation period)! Canine distemper broke out, but the injections and infusions in the hospital became increasingly difficult. At one point, my belly twitched and "nodding" appeared! Cruelly, I took him home and treated him on my own. After all, I graduated from a medical university and worked as a doctor for two years. I used my experience and medicine in treating people on dogs. After more than a week of difficult treatment, Huhu finally recovered. , without leaving any sequelae (treated early). Now I will share some of my experience with dog lovers, hoping it will be helpful to dogs suffering from this disease now and in the future.

Let’s talk about the symptoms first: At the beginning, Huhu had a cough (after coughing a few times in a low voice, he opened his mouth and coughed, feeling like there was phlegm and could not cough it up), with a runny nose and a lot of eye mucus, but he was in good spirits. Very good, with a strong appetite (this makes the owner paralyzed, thinking that the cold weather or bathing made the dog catch a cold). Two days later, I found that Huhuwo's ??cough became more severe, especially in the morning and evening. He felt a little less alert, but his appetite was still good. Immediately sent the dog to the pet hospital. The doctor said it was a cold, and he was given infusions and injections (antibiotic ofloxacin combined with ampicillin, vitamin C, glucose, and two injections of ribavirin) twice a day.

But the next day, it was discovered that Huhu was in serious condition. He was completely listless, his nose began to turn into pus, his eye secretions were cloudy, his appetite decreased significantly, his cough was still severe, and his belly began to twitch slightly. I immediately went to the hospital again, and the doctor said it was serious, typical canine distemper (other treatments remained the same, and I received an injection of what looked like expired immune serum). After returning, I had vomiting again, completely lost my appetite, and refused to even drink water. My belly was bloated, my belly twitched more frequently, and my chest also twitched. My girlfriend blamed it entirely on going to the hospital (I don't share her knowledge, this is the process of disease development), she almost gave up, thinking that there was little hope of cure, as the mortality rate of canine distemper is very high. Finally, we discussed treating it ourselves and relying on our own efforts! Fortunately, I am a doctor, and I have seen a lot of people's diseases. I have no choice but to use the same method for treating people

Treatment plan: 1. High-dose antiviral: I use ribavir Lin, you can also use ribavirin, but I prefer the former, subcutaneous injection (note that it should be injected into the dog's neck skin), one tube at a time (2ml), twice a day, do not dilute.

2. High-dose anti-inflammatory: I chose cefotaxime sodium, the third generation of cephalosporins. Of course, you can also choose others. Considering economic factors, this one is cheaper. It is injected subcutaneously and dissolved in 4ml of sterile water for injection. 1g powder injection, half injected at a time, twice a day.

3. Enhance immunity: If conditions are good, you can choose serum, immunoglobulin, monoclonal antibodies, and thymosin. Considering financial reasons, I chose the oral Zhenqi Fuzheng capsule (or Zhenqi Fuzheng granule). Zhenqi Fuzheng is composed of Astragalus membranaceus and Ligustrum lucidum. It often helps cancer and frail patients enhance their resistance and has good curative effects. If you use capsules, take two at a time, twice a day. Take out the contents of the capsules and dilute them with warm water. If you use granules, divide one pack into two and eat them and dilute them with warm water. (Dogs generally don’t eat it and need to be poured in, but be careful to avoid choking and coughing).

4. Relieving cough and asthma: Still choose traditional Chinese medicine, but not too much. It is recommended to use Chuanbei Paba Cough Lotion, three times a day, as long as appropriate.

5. Smooth Qi and stop vomiting: Huoxiang Zhengqi liquid (do not use Huoxiang Zhengqi water, it is too bitter and will irritate the dog’s gastrointestinal tract), just a small amount, twice a day, stop using it when no vomiting occurs. Take Qingkailing oral liquid twice a day, one tube at a time.

6. Other symptomatic treatments: loss of appetite, porridge (mixed vegetables, minced meat, preferably not pig liver at this time, should be thin, pour into the dog's mouth. If unable to eat or eat immediately To vomit, the only solution is infusion (inosine + 10 glucose + vitamin C), but the key depends on whether you have the level of infusion. You can ask me for advice then, hehe.

Treatment Observation:

The first day: The condition continues to worsen, with no energy and appetite; a small amount of cloudy discharge from the eyes, purulent nasal discharge, dry nose, a little hard, a little spit, The frequency of belly twitching is still high, meaningless "nodding" occurs, and the heartbeat is very fast. I touched it and it was at least twice as fast as usual. Typical abdominal breathing, no cramps in the limbs, but obvious weakness in the lower limbs, and the foot pads are not hard. .

The next day: The purulent nasal discharge is gone, but other symptoms are still obvious. I sleep every day. Although there is less eye secretion, the left eye is slightly swollen and looks smaller than the right eye. Rest lying down for long periods of time.

The third day: The better thing is that you can eat a little by yourself. No other improvement.

Day 4: I sit for a longer time and am more active outside than indoors after going out, but I am out of breath and exhausted after moving for a while.

On the fifth day: I had a small amount of clear nose, but I felt better, and my belly twitching and nodding were relieved a little.

Day six: I am more active outdoors, my eyes are not swollen, there is no secretion, and my nose is moister than before, but the duration of the activity is very short.

Day 7: The response to the owner’s shouting increases, the belly twitching and nodding stop, the appetite increases, but the heartbeat is still fast, and abdominal breathing occurs.

On the eighth day: the heartbeat began to slow down, and it felt as if it was relieved. It was very active outdoors, and its reaction to the surroundings basically returned to the pre-illness state, and the appetite gradually returned to its original level.

Ninth day: He became active indoors, his limbs were strong, his nose was moist, his appetite became strong, he obviously responded to the owner's calls, his heartbeat was slow and strong, abdominal breathing disappeared, and he was basically cured. As a result, my girlfriend began to worship me, and my status in the family skyrocketed, becoming equal to Huhu.

Notes:

1. Antibiotics cannot be used all the time. Use them for three days and stop for two days. Antiviral drugs can be used all the time.

2. Immunity-enhancing drugs must be used, and in large doses

3. The puppy should be encouraged and not scolded. At this time, it is also working hard to fight the disease ( When it was weak, my girlfriend called it, and it struggled desperately to stand up and respond to the call of its owner. This scene made people cry)

4. Be alert early, treat early, and don’t give up easily until the end. moment.
