AR- 18 is an assault rifle improved from AR- 15 rifle by Amaretto Company in 1963. Although it failed to become the standard rifle of any country, its design had an influence on many rifles later.
Basic parameter
The manufacturer is Amarette, with a caliber of 5.56 mm, a total length of 965 mm, a barrel length of 457 mm, a weight of 3 kg, a bomb load of 20/30/40, a muzzle velocity of 99 1 m/s and a firing rate of 700-800 rounds per minute.
R&D history
In the late 1950s, Amarette Company developed the AR- 15 assault rifle. During the long-term test of the AR- 15 assault rifle by the US military, Amarette abandoned this design and sold its production rights to Colt.
Later, the U.S. military decided to use the AR- 15 assault rifle with 5.56 mm ammunition, and Amarette began to look for a design that could rival the AR- 15 assault rifle. But Eugene Stoner has left the company, so this task was given to Arthur Miller, the new chief designer of Amarette. The resulting design was named AR- 18, and the designer Arthur Miller obtained the patent of the gun in 1969.
Technical performance analysis
The structure of AR- 18 assault rifle is different from that of AR- 15/M 16 series rifles, but it is somewhat similar to that of M 14 automatic rifle, except that the handle and piston connecting rod are not an assembly. This short-stroke piston transmission structure was later adopted by many new rifles. Its advantage is that it can delay or partially avoid the serious carbon deposition formed by bad ammunition during shooting and burning.
