Apple and Nokia compete for Nano-SIM standard. Nokia is ahead of Apple in the technology of nano-SIM card, and its designed nano-SIM card does not need to use card slot, while the nano-SIM card designed by Apple is different from the micro-SIM card used by iPhone 4S and iPad, but it still needs to use card slot. In order to impose its patented solution on the industry, Apple mistakenly used the design criteria of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. Apple only uses the European Telecommunications Standards Association to adopt its proposed standard scheme, rather than formulating standards according to established principles and practices. ETSI will discuss this proposal at the plenary meeting of French intelligent platform, when delegates and manufacturers will vote on the new Nano-SIM standard.
Earlier, it was reported that Nokia is currently the largest voting member in the European Telecommunications Standards Association, with 92 votes. However, in order to gain more voting rights in the European Telecommunications Standards Association, Apple has promoted the development of the design standard for nano-SIM cards in its own direction. The company has registered six subsidiaries in Europe, and each of these subsidiaries may get 45 votes.
