Tesla applied for a new patent to suppress the thermal runaway of lithium battery.

According to foreign media reports, Tesla applied for a new patent, the principle of which is to connect to the lithium battery pack through the metal-air battery pack, thus reducing the risk of spontaneous combustion caused by overheating of the lithium battery.

In principle, this patent is actually very simple. It mainly uses the principle that the metal-air battery needs air to work, and is connected with the main battery pack (namely lithium battery) through pipes and valves. When the lithium battery is out of control, the valve will automatically open, allowing hot air to enter the metal-air battery, thus cooling the gas.

In fact, there are still many problems to be solved in the metal-air battery itself, and whether it can be effectively matched to the production car is still a question mark. However, Tesla's patent also provides a new idea for reducing the thermal runaway of lithium batteries.
