There has been a lot of information about the Huawei Mate60 series recently. One of the points that has attracted much attention is that some bloggers have confirmed that the Huawei Mate60 will adopt a design similar to Apple’s “Smart Island”.
After seeing this revelation, some netizens became uneasy and accused Huawei of plagiarizing Apple. But everyone knows that Huawei has already applied for a patent for this design.
Five years ago, Huawei had applied for various appearance patents for screen holes.
It can be found from the official website of the State Intellectual Property Office that Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. applied for an appearance patent for a display screen in May 2018. The application number is 2018302197206. This design product is used for the display of mobile phones. The screen is used to display data information such as videos, images, text, icons, etc.
And according to the patent illustration, Huawei has applied for patents for the design of the left, middle, and right positions of the screen holes. Huawei is still at the forefront in terms of patent research and development, but it has previously dug holes in the center. The hole scheme was not used on mass production machines.
It is worth mentioning that Huawei has conducted user research before. In the survey, Huawei provided two "Smart Island" solutions, one is "equal width on all sides" and the other is " The left and right sides are extremely narrow”, as shown in the picture above. This also paved the way for the "Smart Island" design of Huawei Mate60 series.
As we all know, Huawei’s R&D investment is very considerable. According to the 2022 annual report of Huawei Investment Holding Company, Huawei’s cumulative R&D expenses in the past ten years have exceeded RMB 977.3 billion. R&D expenses will reach 161.5 billion yuan in 2022, accounting for 25.1% of annual revenue.
Huge investment in research and development has also brought Huawei a considerable number of global patents.
For example, Huawei owns 20% of the world’s patents in 5G and WIFI6, 10% in 4G, and so on.
According to statistics, Huawei’s patent licensing revenue will be US$560 million in 2022. Each 4/5G mobile phone can charge a maximum patent fee of 18 yuan.
For a super-large company like Huawei, many patents are at the forefront of the world. This is very worthy of recognition and praise.
