What's the difference between withstand voltage tester and insulation tester?

Withstand voltage tester is also called electrical insulation strength tester or dielectric strength tester, also called dielectric breakdown device, insulation strength tester, high voltage tester, high voltage breakdown device and withstand voltage tester. A test of applying a specified AC or DC high voltage between the live part and the non-live part (usually the shell) of an electrical appliance to check the withstand voltage of the insulating material of the electrical appliance. In the long-term operation, electrical appliances should not only bear the rated working voltage, but also bear the overvoltage caused by short-term operation (the overvoltage value may be several times the rated working voltage value). Under the action of these voltages, the internal structure of electrical insulation materials will change. The main test indicators of electrical safety include AC /DC withstand voltage, insulation resistance, leakage current and grounding resistance. Ac /DC withstand voltage test is used to test the electrical safety performance of products under actual working conditions, and it is one of the important indexes to test the electrical safety performance of equipment. At present, withstand voltage tester in the market adopts the standard of GB4706 (equivalent to IEC 10 10), and generally adopts a single tester with a desktop structure, which cannot meet the needs of users for multi-index comprehensive testing; Moreover, at present, most of withstand voltage tester in the market adopt traditional testing methods, which have low testing accuracy, and the adopted technology and main performance indicators are far from the advanced level abroad, which can not fully meet the needs of the current development of electrical safety performance testing. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the withstand voltage test system which conforms to the latest international standards, adopts advanced technology and has better performance indicators.

Withstand voltage tester is mainly used for the withstand voltage test of polyethylene insulated power cables, and can also be used for the insulation withstand voltage test of large power transformers. The ultra-low frequency and high voltage test of power cable is a new method of withstand voltage test.
