What is the Internet of Vehicles?

The concept of the Internet of Vehicles originated from the Internet of Things, that is, the Internet of Things for vehicles. With the help of the new generation of information and communication technology, the network connection between vehicles and X (that is, vehicles, people, roads and service platforms) can be realized, and the overall intelligent driving level of vehicles can be improved, providing users with safe, comfortable, intelligent and efficient driving experience and transportation services, and at the same time improving the traffic operation efficiency and the intelligent level of social transportation services.

The automobile industry has a history of more than one hundred years, and it is a relatively mature and stable industry. However, in recent years, the concept of "car networking" has gradually become popular, and giants have joined this inevitable trend in order to occupy a favorable position in the future.

The real car networking is not only limited to car+network or car+car, but also includes at least four definitions: car-to-car, car-to-infrastructure, car-to-pedestrian and car-to-network.

China has become the largest producer of patents on key technologies of car networking.

According to China News Service, the opening ceremony and theme report of the 3rd China International Car Networking Technology Conference co-sponsored by China Communications Society and Sichuan Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology was held in Chengdu on June 5438+February 10, 2022. The White Paper on Intellectual Property Rights of the Internet of Vehicles (2022) released at the conference shows that China has become the largest producer of patents on key technologies of the Internet of Vehicles.

According to the white paper, as of May 2022, the total number of patent applications in the global vehicle networking field has reached 125326. The main applicants are concentrated in traditional car factories, auto parts enterprises, communication enterprises and internet high-tech enterprises. Judging from the research strength of various countries, Japanese and American companies still occupy a high position; China is the largest patent producer, and some companies (such as Huawei, ZTE, Baidu, etc. ) are outstanding.

From the perspective of global patent technology flow, China, the United States and Japan are the main technology original countries and target market countries in the field of intelligent networked vehicles. There are many foreign patents in China, while the number of patents in China overseas is relatively small. The Japanese market is relatively closed, mainly occupied by domestic technology.

In view of the development of intellectual property rights of the Internet of Vehicles, the white paper puts forward strategic suggestions, including: enhancing the collaborative innovation capability of the Internet of Vehicles industry and promoting high-quality patent output; Comprehensively improve the patent protection ability of enterprises, universities and scientific research institutions; Establish an intellectual property sharing mechanism to promote the coordinated use of Industry-University-Research; Establish an industry-wide intellectual property risk response mechanism.

The white paper points out that the Internet of Vehicles has formed a mature industrial ecology and business model in developed countries such as North America, Europe and Japan. It is estimated that the global car networking market will exceed10.5 trillion yuan in 2025.
