The Armed Police Engineering University is not a military school.

The Armed Police Engineering University is located on the site of Qin Afang Palace in the ancient city of Xi'an. It was originally called the Armed Police Technical College. It was established in 1983 with the approval of the State Council and the Central Military Commission. In September 1998, it was renamed the Armed Police Engineering College. It was restructured in June 2011. It is the Armed Police Engineering University; in June 2017, the former Armed Police Engineering University and the former Armed Police Urumqi Command College were adjusted to form a new Armed Police Engineering University. Mainly responsible for the academic education and job training of command and engineering technical cadres of the Armed Police Force.

The university is the first higher military institution established by the Armed Police Force, the first to offer undergraduate and master’s education, and the first to be identified as a key construction project of the army’s “2110 Project”. It has the most training levels, the most complete subject categories, and the largest training scale. It is the largest and strongest school-running university, the only armed police comprehensive university with the right to confer doctoral degrees, the only pilot project for modernized teaching in the military, and the only armed police comprehensive university that places equal emphasis on command and technology, combines engineering and management, and integrates teaching and scientific research.

The university has a strong academic atmosphere and strong scientific research strength. In the past 10 years, it has published more than 400 monographs and translations, and published more than 9,000 academic papers at home and abroad; it has completed scientific research at the armed police force and at the provincial and ministerial levels and above. There are more than 300 projects, of which more than 100 have passed provincial and ministerial level appraisals, and more than 400 have won military or provincial science and technology progress awards or national patents.

The university implements open teaching and has established a scientific research cooperation mechanism with Northwestern Polytechnical University, Ordnance Radar Group, a special vehicle factory, etc., gradually forming a development pattern of extensive cooperation, in-depth exchanges, and integration and improvement. More than 400 scientific research and academic achievements by teachers and students of the university have won awards from the state, the army and the Armed Police Force. It is a new force in scientific and technological innovation of the Armed Police Force. It has become the cradle of modern police officers of the Armed Police Force, a window for external exchanges, and a R&D field for scientific research and academic research.
