The Development Course of Shanghai Institute of Aerospace Systems Engineering

805 was one of the earliest scientific research institutes to participate in China's manned spaceflight project. In the early 1990s, it participated in the overall demonstration of spacecraft, and then participated in the development tasks of Shenzhou I to Shenzhou VI in the first phase of manned spaceflight project, as well as the development tasks of Shenzhou VII, transport spacecraft and target aircraft. According to the three-step strategy of China's manned spaceflight project, the 805 Institute began to develop two-step first-class transport spacecraft and target aircraft in 2003, mainly responsible for structural design and overall assembly of propulsion module and resource module, docking mechanism subsystem, power supply subsystem, solar wing and driving mechanism subsystem.

The subsystem of space rendezvous and docking mechanism independently developed by 805 companies is one of the two key technologies to realize the mission objectives of China manned space flight phase II project. The mechanical part of the docking mechanism is by far the most complex system product integrating mechanical, electrical and control technologies in China. It is the focus and core of subsystem development, with great technical difficulty, wide professional scope, complex functions and composition, and many technological innovations. While paying attention to digesting and absorbing foreign advanced technology, 805 Institute has mastered the core intellectual property rights based on self-research and technological innovation, has more than 20 invention patents, and the domestic rate of devices reaches 99%. The leaping development of China docking mechanism has been realized. Through 16 years of hard research,11ground docking test and 647 ground separation tests, the reliability of docking and separation of docking mechanism has been fully verified, which has laid a solid technical foundation for the successful completion of manned rendezvous and docking mission and space station construction in China. In this mission, the docking mechanism developed by 805 successfully completed the tasks of contact, capture, buffering, tensioning, sealing connection and separation between Tiangong-1 and Shenzhou-8 spacecraft. The test results of the first rendezvous and docking mission show that the products manufactured by 805 work normally in orbit, and the docking results are in good agreement with the ground simulation test, which has achieved remarkable results in the first rendezvous and docking mission in China.
