China ranks first in the world in terms of number of artificial intelligence patent applications, and the company with the largest number of applications is Baidu.
The number of applications from three Chinese applicants, Baidu, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Tencent, has grown rapidly in recent years, with Baidu being the most eye-catching. Although it started late, the number of patent applications quickly exceeded other applicants and were far ahead in the last two years. From an international comparison, China's artificial intelligence development has entered the leading international group. China has always been in a state of lagging behind and catching up in previous industrial revolutions, but when the fourth industrial revolution emerges, China is already sitting on the first train with other countries. In the field of artificial intelligence, China has entered the leading international group in terms of technological development and market application, presenting a competitive landscape in which China and the United States stand side by side. From the perspective of development quality, China’s artificial intelligence development is far from being very optimistic. China's areas of advantage mainly reflect applications, but in the core technical fields of artificial intelligence, such as hardware and algorithms, its strength is still very weak, which makes the foundation for China's artificial intelligence development not solid enough. China's artificial intelligence technology development lacks top talents, and the gap with developed countries, especially the United States, is still very obvious.
Baidu’s recently launched AI product is called AI Studio. The concept is indeed good, and there are also many free computing power gifts. However, I don’t know if it is because it is difficult to make profits, so the current promotion is not strong enough.
Baidu’s next promising project, in addition to AI studio, is Apollo autonomous driving. In the "Artificial Intelligence China Patent Technology Analysis Report" distributed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in December 2018, most of the top 10 applicants in the field of patent applications in China's autonomous driving field are established automobile manufacturers such as Ford and Toyota. Baidu is not only the only Internet company on the list company, and the number of patent applications reached 694, ranking first. However, no one in the world dares to put autonomous driving into practice. After all, it is a matter of human life, and it cannot be put into practice if it is not safe.
If Baidu wants to get out of the predicament of not relying on low-quality advertisements to maintain profits, it still needs to launch more AI projects and learn from other companies to grow and develop.
