Wan Chao patent

Wan Chao Digital Exchange will tell you today that the competition is so fierce. Why don't domestic mobile phones use Huawei chips? Chip is the most restricted part of domestic smart phones. In addition to Huawei, some mobile phones, especially high-end mobile phones, use their own Kirin series chips. Xiaomi, Meizu, OPPO, vivo and other domestic mobile phones almost all use chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek. Without its own core chip technology, it must be controlled by people. But from Qualcomm's point of view, there is nothing wrong with its approach. Qualcomm's flagship chip to which mobile phone manufacturer?

Mainly mobile phone manufacturers such as Samsung and Sony. Xiaomi, Meizu, Qinglan and other mobile phones generally take the chip first, not the flagship chip. This involves the strategic layout of Qualcomm. There are three main reasons why Samsung can get Qualcomm's flagship chip. First of all, Samsung's mobile phone is very large, and its market share of 20 17 ranks first in the world. And most of its mobile phones are high-end phones. Qualcomm will give Samsung its flagship chip, which will not only increase its chip market share, but also create the effect of high-end chips with high-end mobile phones. Secondly, the cooperation between Qualcomm and Samsung is very close. Part of the chip business in Qualcomm is manufactured by Samsung Electronics Wafer Foundry. When others help you make chips, you have to give others the greatest benefit. The last reason is that Samsung didn't get the CDMA patent authorization, so it can't be the chip of the whole netcom, so it can only seek cooperation with Qualcomm for the time being.

For Sony, the market share of Sony mobile phones in Japan has almost always been the second only to Apple. Sony used MediaTek's Helio P20 before, and later Peria's XA2 series abandoned MediaTek and switched to Qualcomm, which was a means for Qualcomm to pave the way for the Japanese market through the authorization of its flagship chip. Whether it is market share, high-end models, and chip OEM cooperation, these are exactly what domestic mobile phones such as Xiaomi, Meizu and Green Blue can't give to Qualcomm. If you were Qualcomm, would you hand over your high-end chips to these domestic mobile phone manufacturers on a large scale? Definitely not. For Huawei, if Huawei's mobile phones all use chips from Qualcomm, I think Qualcomm will license its flagship high-end chips to Huawei on the scale of Huawei. However, this is not what we Huawei want. Stubborn Huawei is not only a mobile phone manufacturer, but also a symbol of domestic and even national brands. It seems that it needs to spend a lot of money and manpower to develop its own chips to prove that we can have our own chips.

Indeed, Huawei's chips are doing well. From the beginning of Huawei k3 to 920 Kirin, in five years, Huawei's Kirin chip has been able to meet the needs of high-end machines. Kirin 960 released at the end of 16 represents a new level of CPU, GPU and baseband technology. The CPU and GPU performance of this chip is equivalent to Snapdragon 82 1, the high-end chip of Qualcomm, the leader of mobile phone chips at that time. This is the first time that domestic mobile phone chips catch up with Qualcomm in GPU performance, while some low-end phones still use chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek. The breakthrough on the chip makes Huawei's ecosystem clearer. Communication+mobile phone+chip, Huawei is fully capable of establishing a self-enclosed organic system. Xiaomi, Meizu and Cyanlan don't use Huawei's chips. It may not be that they don't want to use it themselves, but that Huawei doesn't.

Wan Chao Digital Exchange believes that Huawei chip is a part of its ecosystem and a symbol of maintaining its uniqueness. Speaking of Huawei, it can be said that Huawei is not only a smart phone manufacturer, but also a manufacturer with strong comprehensive capabilities in communication construction and chip research and development. Moreover, it will also cause many people in China to be more vocal and support Huawei mobile phones. Secondly, the mass production scale of Huawei chips is not enough to support the demand of so many domestic mobile phones. Huawei's mobile phone chips are mainly produced by foundries such as TSMC, Grofonder and UMC. Therefore, the cost of its manufacturing scale is not small, and there is no need to increase the scale cost in order to provide chips for other domestic mobile phones. Finally, domestic mobile phones fought a price war. Under the same chip configuration, how can Huawei guarantee to win the price war? It is better to maintain its own uniqueness, make a little progress and occupy market share.
