In Jiafu, a big family with complex factions and many contradictions, on the one hand, she adopts the philosophy of "keeping quiet when asking questions, shaking her head and not knowing" to preserve our sanity; On the other hand, she is good at dealing with interpersonal relationships and maintains a kind, natural and appropriate relationship with people in all aspects; As the fat review said: "Treat people with indifference, not far away, not close, and the disgusting people will not see the cold state at the end, and they will form all kinds of sounds; The gratifying people have not seen the intimate feelings, and they have all kinds of sounds. " In this seemingly impartial attitude towards life, she paid special attention to trying to figure out and cater to the wishes of Jia's rulers in order to win their favor, but she never showed indifference and contempt for Aunt Zhao and others who were looked down upon, so she was praised by all kinds of people up and down Jia's house. Jia Mu praised her as "stable and peaceful"; Aunt Zhao, who never praised others, also said that she was "generous". Even the little girls are close to her.
In Xue Baochai's character, there is indeed hypocrisy and affectation. She likes to please and flatter people. Jia mu is going to give her a birthday and ask her what she likes to listen to and what she likes to eat. Knowing that the elderly like lively operas and sweet and rotten food, she answered according to Jia Mu's usual hobbies. She also flattered Jia mu to her face. She said, "I've been here for so many years, and it seems that Feng Wench, no matter how clever she is, can't beat the old lady." As a result, Grandmother Jia praised her: "Speaking of sisters", "From the four girls in our family, they are not as good as Baoyu." After Jin Chuaner committed suicide by throwing himself into a well, Mrs. Wang felt uneasy. She comforted Mrs. Wang and said: Jin will not commit suicide; If it's suicide, it's just a fool. It's not a pity to die. Just reward me with a few taels of silver. Mrs. Wang said that it was not good to bring the clothes for Lin Daiyu's birthday to make up for the dead, for fear that she would be taboo, so Xue Baochai automatically took out her newly made clothes and gave them to Mrs. Wang. This passage is not only about her courting Mrs. Wang, but also shows how ruthless this feudal believer is. On the occasion of "Shouyihong Qunfang held a night banquet", it was written that peony was painted on the toothpick she picked for drinking, and there was an afternoon poem on it: "Ren is ruthless and moving". According to the standards of feudal society, Xue Baochai was called the crown of all the beauties, but she also said "heartless". "Ruthless" means that she is a believer and practitioner of feudal morality; "Also moving", but just say her beauty. When Maru says Leng Xiang, she may imply that she is not enthusiastic. But "ruthlessness" and apathy do not mean adultery. The water pavilion flutters butterflies, which naturally shows that she has a plan. But its purpose is to make Xiaohong and Zhui Er think that she didn't see the affair and didn't mean to frame Lin Daiyu. Borrowing clothes and gold medals did not consciously make Mrs. Wang dislike Lin Daiyu. In doing so, she completely followed the feudal philosophy of preserving our sanity, which naturally showed her hypocrisy and selfishness. The hypocrisy of her thoughts and words is mainly due to the hypocrisy of feudal morality itself. Her mind is saturated with feudal thoughts, and she is a lady who faithfully believes in feudal morality and feudal ethics. She believes that it is the most moral thing to do according to feudal moral norms; So she naturally achieved the "four virtues". Some people say that Xue Baochai is "a big villain and a big thief", and fear of "Bo" refers to her loyal devotion and implementation of feudal morality; Because this morality itself is hypocritical. She won the confidence of the Jia family and was finally chosen as Baoyu's wife, which is mainly the natural result of her personality and environment, and should not be simply regarded as the victory of her or Aunt Xue's intrigue. The view that all Xue Baochai's activities are consciously and planned for Baoyu is not consistent with the description in the book, but also narrows the ideological significance of this character. In fact, her character is not treacherous, not always scheming everywhere, but she does it according to feudal orthodoxy, and she is so unaware of it. That's like a duck to water. The hypocrisy that people see from her is the embodiment of feudal moral hypocrisy. Xue Baochai's scheming is completely different from Xifeng's duplicity. The complexity and richness of Xue Baochai's character are also reflected in some beautiful characters she has. For example, she is considerate, fair, caring, considerate and helpful. Once, xiren wanted to beg Xiangyun to do some needlework for her. When Baochai knew about it, she immediately explained to her Shi Xiangyun's difficulties of "not being the master at home", "doing work in the middle of the night" and "being tired when she came", and blamed her for "not being considerate for a while" and took the initiative to take up the work that Xiang Yun wanted to do. Another time, Xiangyun wanted to open a cooperative as a host, and Baochai gave her a crab feast because her expenses caused her aunt to complain. Therefore, this outspoken and generous young lady once sincerely praised Baochai: "None of these sisters is better than Sister Bao. Unfortunately, we are not motherly-I don't care if I have such a sister, even if I have no parents." For Lin Daiyu, a sponsor, and Xing Xiuyan, a poor family, they have also given all kinds of help. Even for the servants in the Grand View Garden, she can be considerate of their situation of getting up early and going to bed late and working hard all year round, and plan some extra benefits for them.
