The Twin Cities of Kuixing Tower

Kuixing Tower

The Twin Castles Kuixing Tower was built in 1893 (the 19th year of Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty) and is located in Shuangcheng Town. It was later demolished in 1957 due to disrepair.

Kui Xing Tower was built in Shuangcheng, because it was the place where the Manchus settled and prospered in the Jin Dynasty. The Manchu rulers called Shuangcheng the "Longxing Place" of the Manchus and the hometown of Manchuria. Kuixing is one of the twenty-eight constellations, and is responsible for the position of being the number one scholar in civil and military affairs. In 1892, Zhang Bangyan, secretary of the Qing cabinet who was born in Shuangcheng, contacted the local gentry Guan Yuqian, Zhang Junsheng, Zhang Xuansheng, Zhang Naiming, etc., and asked Sun Fengyuan, the general magistrate, to approve the construction of Kuixing Tower while forwarding the details to the summit for approval to donate funds for the renovation of Dacheng Hall. In order to enhance the cultural fortune and prosper the culture of this area, those in power complied with the proposal. This was an important reason for the construction of Kuixing Tower.

The current Kuixing Tower was rebuilt in a park outside the east gate of Shuangcheng. The reconstruction took three years and was completed on the Double Ninth Festival of the Lunar Calendar in 1993. Kuixing's height and appearance are the highest among similar buildings in the country. The building adopts the official construction method of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the construction standard is a national first-class building. The color painting uses ink lines, Xuanzi and small touches of gold. The architectural style is a square tower with a cross-shaped top. The building is 39.9 meters high, the platform base guardrail is square, and the side rails are 33 meters long. The main building is square with a side of 17 meters. The reconstruction of Kuixing Building will be built with all donations from the public. The rebuilt Kuixing Tower is 6 meters higher than the original building.

The Kuixing Tower of the Twin Castles has majestic posture, novel shape, exquisite structure and superb craftsmanship. It represents the outstanding innovation and wisdom of the people of the twin cities in the 18th century and embodies the characteristics of the classical architecture of the Chinese nation. As far as the traditional mentality is concerned, Kuixing Tower has become synonymous with the twin cities, as symbolic as the Purple Mountain is to Nanjing and the Five Ram Sculpture is to Guangzhou. Kuixing Tower has such cohesiveness, attraction and charisma, which is probably related to the many legends about its construction: First, it is said that Zhang Bangyan, the secretary of the Qing cabinet, came to visit his relatives, walked to the southeast corner of the twin cities, and was inspired by Kuixing to build the building; Second, it is said that Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty The emperor watched the sky at night and saw meteors falling into the northeast and built a building. There have always been many legends about the construction of Kuixing Tower in Shuangcheng. Although the legend cannot replace the original intention of the building, it can express the people's long-cherished wish for knowledge and pray for more talents in the twin cities. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, 450 officials above the regiment level were dispatched from Shuangcheng. Among them, there are 30 provincial governors, deputy ministers of foreign affairs and generals at the military division level; 60 years ago, there were more than 120 male and female students studying abroad in Shuangcheng; after the founding of New China, the Shuangcheng sent more than 300 troops at division level and above across the country people. There are many talented people in the twin cities of ancient and modern times. It is impossible to discuss whether the leading star of the court prefers them. However, the pure heart of serving the motherland and loving the hometown is passed down from generation to generation and is equally fierce. It can be said that Kuixing Tower is a symbol of the ancient civilization of Shuangcheng, the sustenance of Shuangcheng's love for the garden and hometown, and a symbol of the rise of Shuangcheng people who are determined to become stronger.

On the third floor of Shuangcheng Kuixing Building, the interior walls are equipped with exquisite windows and ingenious craftsmanship. On the first floor, there is a large Chinese painting "The Origin of Twin Castles". The main character in the painting is Jilin general Fu Junle Maren in 1814 (the 19th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty). The surrounding paintings reflect the Qing government's move to the capital for reclamation, the establishment of twin cities, the rise of industry and commerce, and the prosperity of the city. The second floor is a huge Chinese mural "The Legend of Kuixing Tower". In the center of the picture is the towering Kuixing Tower. The background is the blue sea and sky with clouds and mist: a long white crane. This painting uses a creative method that combines romanticism and realism to render the The extraordinary origin of Kuixing Tower. It entrusts the long-cherished wishes of the people in the Shuangcheng area. The third floor is the sculpture of Kuixing, standing from the north to the south, with a height of 9.9 meters. The Kuixing Tower has a majestic appearance, with a golden turtle on its feet, a cup in its left hand, and a pen in its right hand. Only those who have worked hard and have lofty ideals will have their magic pen on everyone's head. Looking out from the fence on the third floor, the scenery is different in four seasons: spring seedlings are in full bloom, vast expanse of blue waves, swallows and orioles are singing; summer trees are shaded, willow silk is dripping with green, and butterflies are busy; autumn is high and crisp, red leaves are like flowers, and orioles are weaving cotton; winter The ground is covered with snow, and the towers and pavilions are covered in silver. Those who see it feel relaxed and happy, and feel excited about things.

The construction of the old and new Kuixing Tower coincides with this century. This century is a period in Chinese history when national struggles and class struggles are unprecedentedly intense, and society undergoes earth-shaking fundamental changes.
