A series of important progress and achievements have been made in the research and practice of breeding theory, breeding technology system, gene excavation and germplasm innovation of green traits, cultivation and application of new green super rice varieties, efficient cultivation techniques and management models.
According to reports, the project has established an efficient and accurate platform for identification and evaluation of green traits, and excavated and identified a large number of important green trait genes and a large number of breeding innovative materials; More than 3,000 rice genome sequencing databases have been constructed. 63 national invention patents were applied, including 23 authorized invention patents.
In the process of project promotion, the cooperation between rice breeding cooperation networks and scientific research units in different ecological regions of China has been strengthened, and a number of molecular breeding technical talents have been trained. The key cultivation techniques of green super rice were constructed, including mechanical transplanting and seedling strengthening, full mechanization of ratooning rice, precise water-saving and fertilizer-saving technology, and straw returning to field and direct seeding technology.
In recent five years, 65 new rice varieties with multiple green traits (resistance to 2-3 major pests and diseases, water saving and drought resistance, high quality and high yield) have been cultivated, and more than 20 sterile lines and restorers with multiple green traits have been bred. The new variety has been popularized in Guangdong, Anhui, Hunan, Hubei and other places, with a total area of 90 million mu.
