What is link aggregation? What is the function of link aggregation?

Link Aggregation (English: link aggregation) is a computer network term, which refers to the aggregation of multiple physical ports to form a logical port, so as to realize the load sharing of the output/input traffic throughput of each member port. The switch decides which member port to send network packets to the opposite switch according to the port load sharing policy configured by the user.

When the switch detects the link failure of one of the member ports, it stops sending messages on this port, and recalculates the sending ports of messages in the remaining links according to the load sharing strategy, and the failed port will be used as the receiving and sending port again after recovery. Link aggregation is a very important technology to increase link bandwidth, realize link transmission flexibility and engineering redundancy.

Extended data:

Other common terms used to describe link aggregation include port trunking, link bundling, Ethernet/network/network card bundling or network card bundling. These general terms include not only vendor-independent standards, such as the Ethernet Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) defined in IEEE 802. 1ax and IEEE 802.3ad or the previous IEEE 802.3ad definitions, but also various patented solutions.
