Characteristics of Environmental Engineering, a key discipline in Hubei Province, is one of the earliest teaching points in environmental engineering education in colleges and universities in our province. This discipline has chosen three main research directions: non-point source pollution control technology, environmental impact assessment and sewage treatment theory and technology, and gradually formed its own characteristics.
-The seriousness of non-point source pollution in water environment has aroused widespread concern at home and abroad, and the study of non-point source pollution has become an active field of international environmental research. This topic is based on the research of non-point source pollution control in Huangshi Cihu Lake. Since Cihu Lake is located in the center of Huangshi, its non-point source pollution covers urban non-point sources and rural agricultural non-point sources. Therefore, the research and application of point source pollution control technology in this topic is more representative and extensive.
As an important research direction of environmental engineering, environmental impact assessment is to systematically identify, predict and evaluate the possible impacts (consequences) on the environment after the implementation of proposed construction projects, regional development plans and national policies. The research in this field is of great significance for fully implementing Scientific Outlook on Development and building an environment-friendly society. Since 1987, this discipline has been engaged in the research and practice of environmental impact assessment for a long time, and it is one of the units that set foot in the frontier field of environmental impact assessment earlier. He has undertaken more than one environmental impact assessment project 100, completed five provincial and municipal related scientific research projects, published three related works, won the provincial environmental science and technology progress award 1 item, and won the national and provincial "excellent environmental impact report" 1 copy. This discipline is in the forefront of similar disciplines in our province in the direction of environmental impact assessment.
-Theory and technical direction of sewage treatment. This topic focuses on the research of sewage treatment and resource utilization technology in small towns based on biological filtration oxidation reactor, advanced treatment and resource utilization technology of medium and high concentration industrial wastewater (especially refinery and coking wastewater) based on the combination of biological filtration oxidation reactor and other wastewater treatment processes, and research and development of new membrane materials based on nano-scale photocatalytic degradation. Some of its academic achievements are at the domestic advanced level, and some have reached the domestic leading level.
The cross-integration, mutual supplement and mutual promotion of the above three research directions constitute a complete teaching and scientific research discipline system, which makes the construction of this discipline point show a good development trend. This discipline has the following main advantages among similar disciplines in China:
(1) The major of environmental engineering in our college was listed as a provincial key major by the provincial education department in 1992, and was listed as a key major by the provincial education department again in 2005. It has distinctive characteristics and remarkable achievements in the training of practical talents, and has trained more than 3,000 undergraduate and junior college graduates majoring in environment for the society, most of whom have become the business backbone of the environmental protection front. Take Hubei Province as an example. About 30% of the environmental protection directors of county and city environmental protection departments, directors of environmental protection institutes and stationmasters of environmental monitoring stations are graduates trained by our college. The outstanding achievements of these graduates provide a good social environment for the construction of this discipline.
(3) This major holds the qualification certificate of environmental impact assessment issued by the State Environmental Protection Administration and the qualification certificate of environmental engineering design issued by Hubei Environmental Protection Bureau. Huangshi Science and Education Leading Group awarded the discipline "Huangshi Demonstration Productivity Promotion Center for Environmental Engineering", and the construction of this discipline was strongly supported by national, provincial and municipal environmental protection departments and local governments.
