War Bone
Source This product is the dried stem of Premna fulva Craib, a plant of the Verbenaceae family. It can be harvested throughout the year, impurities removed and dried in the sun.
Plant characteristics: Shrub, 3~5m high, young branches densely covered with yellow flat villous hairs, bark reddish brown. Single leaves are opposite, papery, usually oval, long oval, elliptical or nearly round, 4~15cm long, 3~9cm wide, apex acuminate or sharp, base broadly wedge-shaped, often skewed , the edges have irregular circular serrations, sometimes entire edges, and both sides are pubescent; the petiole is 2~5.5cm long, each pair is of varying lengths, and is equally pubescent as the branchlets. Cymes corymbose, terminal, drupe ovate to spherical.
Medicine properties: This product is cylindrical in shape, with a diameter of 1 to 2.5cm, with a grayish-yellow surface and fine irregular longitudinal wrinkles. The outer skin often peels off in sheets, and the peeling areas appear reddish brown. It is hard in texture, with reddish-brown bark in the cross-section and yellow-white wood. Pore-like vessels can be seen, and the rays are arranged radially. There is a white soft pith in the center of the cross-section. The smell is slight and the taste is slightly astringent.
Nature, taste and function: light, slightly astringent, flat. Tonglong Road, dispelling wind and poison, strengthening muscles and bones, reducing swelling and pain.
Usage and dosage: 15~30g; appropriate amount for external use, decoct in water and wash the affected area.
Clinical application: Used for hypertrophic spondylitis and exuberance (rheumatic bone pain).
