20 12 12 On February 5th, Microsoft Asia Pacific Group announced that it would strengthen its innovation for local needs, and appointed Dr. Liu Zhen as the president of Microsoft Asia Engineering Institute, reporting directly to Mr. Shen, Chief Operating Officer of Microsoft Asia Pacific Group. Dr. Liu Zhen will lead Microsoft Asia Institute of Engineering, fully promote the cutting-edge development and technology incubation of Internet of Things services, big data management, combing and analysis based on Microsoft azure platform, and be responsible for supporting the service platform of smart cities to capture the demand and business opportunities in China and emerging markets.

Dr. Liu Zhen is an IEEE academician and has more than 20 years of research and development experience in the ICT industry. He has made important research achievements in the fields of distributed system, stream processing system, sensor network, system performance modeling, high-speed communication network control and performance analysis, Web service and application performance and optimization, and has written many books and papers. Before joining Microsoft, Dr. Liu Zhen served as Dean of Nokia Beijing Research Institute, Dean of Nokia Growth National Research Institute, Senior Research Fellow of IBM T. J. Watson Research Center and Senior Manager of New Generation Distributed Systems Department, and Senior Research Fellow and Chief Research Fellow of French National Institute of Information and Automatic Control.
