Dupont has a long history of scientific exploration and numerous innovations. In 20 13, the company invested 2.2 billion dollars in R&D, and obtained about 1 0,050 American patents and about 2,500 international patents. It has more than 10000 scientists and technicians and more than 150 R&D facilities all over the world. Dupont now cooperates with more people in more fields than ever before. Dupont's business dealings with China can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty (1863). Following closely the pace of China's reform and opening up, DuPont set up an office in Beijing on 1984, and incorporated "DuPont China Group Co., Ltd." in Shenzhen on 1988, becoming one of the earliest multinational enterprises to invest in China. After 30 years' efforts, DuPont has established more than 40 wholly-owned and joint ventures in China, with about 6,000 employees, and moved many regional business headquarters to Chinese mainland.
Shanghai Dupont China R&D Center was officially put into use in 2005, and the second phase expansion was completed on 20 13. The center is committed to providing technical innovation support and cooperation platform for China local, Asia-Pacific and global markets, focusing on the application, development and testing capabilities of new materials in photovoltaic solutions, bio-based materials and automotive materials.
In addition, DuPont Shanghai Innovation Center, which focuses on agriculture and food, 3C, automobile and energy, was completed in September, 20 14, in order to further meet the R&D demand of China local market and DuPont's global innovation resources, promote regional cooperation more efficiently and improve the response speed to local innovation partners.
