Aquaculture is one of the disciplines with the longest running history in Jimei University. When Shanghai Fisheries University moved to Xiamen in 1972, it set up a major related to aquaculture, followed by mariculture. In 1998, freshwater aquaculture and mariculture merged into aquaculture.
