Xiamen University, referred to as Xiamen University for short, is located in Xiamen City, Fujian Province. It is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), and a key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, Fujian Province and Xiamen City. It ranks among the national "double first-class", "2 1 1 project" and "985 project". Selected into the national "20 1 1 plan", "Everest plan", "strong foundation plan", "1/plan" and excellent legal talent education and training plan.
Xiamen University, founded in 192 1, is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in China's modern education history, one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students, and the first university to build an independent campus overseas. Its early buildings were selected as the national key cultural relics protection units and the first batch of China 20th century architectural heritage, and were praised as "the strongest in the South" and "the most beautiful university in China".

In September, 2022, a new study involving Queensland University of Science and Technology, Griffith University, Xiamen University, Jiangnan University and Southern Medical University in China found that atmospheric pressure cold plasma can inhibit coronavirus from invading human cells, which laid the foundation for developing drugs such as nasal spray that can prevent COVID-19. Related papers were recently published in the Australian Journal of Diagnostics and Therapeutics.
