I was reading a book "How to Become an Expert" recently, and happened to see the section "Proactively looking for opportunities for valuable work". I found my passion based on my own growth process, so I thought Let’s talk about this issue here too.
There was a time when I returned to my job after a business trip to India for more than a month. I found that my former subordinates had avoided me and no longer reported directly to me. I became a technical expert with a real name but no real power. The decisions I made could no longer be passed on to the people below, and there was no support for what I wanted to do. Under the circumstances at that time, my direct boss was wary of me, and I understand this. What should I do in this situation? Should we just muddle along, or change positions?
Those are unrealistic things, but we have to make some achievements. The annual expert assessment needs to complete some key indicators. Otherwise, they will be kicked off. It was like this for almost two years.
The first strategy I took at that time was to find things to do by myself. I told the chief engineer and director about my current situation and wanted to do something. At the same time, I got the support of the vehicle performance chief, Huang, and persuaded them to let me take full responsibility for the preliminary research of a new technology. Responsible for connecting with partner universities. Through this project, in-depth research was conducted on the application of new technologies in certain automotive systems. Together with universities, we not only published many high-level academic papers, but also applied for several invention patents and software copyrights. With my deputy senior professional title, I have published more than 20 papers and more than 40 patents in the past few years. It laid a good foundation for me to pass the review of the senior professional title in 2018.
The second is to learn by yourself and enrich yourself. Take advantage of relatively free time. I thought I could choose to take a certificate, and I finally chose to take the patent agent qualification certificate. At this time, the country began to attach great importance to intellectual property rights, and companies also increased investment in this area, providing support in terms of time and cost. After two years of study and exams, I finally obtained this qualification certificate, although I did not engage in this field of work in the end. But I enjoyed the learning process and learned a lot about law and patent review writing.
Based on my above experience, I think there are the following points on how to actively look for job opportunities that are valuable to you:
1. Strive for opportunities within the company. This requires you to learn to actively demonstrate your work effectiveness and problem-solving abilities in normal times, so that your leaders and colleagues can recognize and recognize you. You can't always go around when things happen, and don't want to deal with difficult and complicated problems. If you can't prove your ability and responsibility in your daily work, then when the opportunity comes, how can people dare to leave things to you? ! Therefore, you have to show that you dare to take responsibility and take the initiative to take responsibility, establish good interpersonal relationships and your ability and image to solve problems. You will get more opportunities.
2. Job-hopping is also an option. If you are someone who really wants to do practical things and has the corresponding abilities, there will always be many opportunities for you to use, but you need to look for them. There is a simple criterion: go to places where there is a lot of demand but not a great reputation; go to places where instability is not solidified; go to places where there are endless possibilities but not a glimpse of the future. It was through constant job-hopping that I finally found the right company for me.
3. Take the initiative to find things to do. If there are not a lot of practical opportunities at present, but you are unlikely to change jobs or quit your job to start a business, you might as well take the initiative to find something to do. I have a subordinate who, although he comes from a not very good university, is willing to work and often comes to me to ask me for things to do. I think his growth in the past two years has been very good. It is already qualified for many jobs and is much better to use than some students who graduated from 211/985 schools.
I don’t know if my sharing above can bring you some inspiration. If you have any other suggestions, please leave a message for discussion.
