II. Introduction to Suzhou University of Science and Technology
Suzhou University of Science and Technology is located in Suzhou, a famous historical and cultural city in China and known as the "paradise on earth". It is adjacent to Shihu Lake and sits on the Shangfang Mountain. The campus environment is beautiful and the scenery is winding. Suzhou Institute of Science and Technology, the predecessor of the school, was formed by the merger of Suzhou Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection, a university directly under the former Ministry of Construction, and Suzhou Railway Teachers College, a university directly under the former Ministry of Railways, in September 21. There are 59 undergraduate majors, among which 3 majors, such as urban and rural planning, are national-level specialty. At present, there are 1 national college students' cultural quality education base, 1 national college students' scientific and technological entrepreneurship practice base, 1 national off-campus practice education base, 6 specialty majors in Jiangsu Province, 8 majors (including 14 majors) are listed as key majors in the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" of Jiangsu Province, 3 majors have been approved as the first phase project of brand specialty construction project in Jiangsu Province, and 5 majors have passed the professional evaluation of higher education. Six disciplines were selected into the dominant discipline construction project in Jiangsu Province, and nine disciplines were key disciplines in Jiangsu Province. At present, there are 13 scientific research platforms above the provincial level, including national engineering laboratories and provincial key laboratories, and 17 municipal scientific research platforms, including municipal key laboratories.
The school has a reasonable structure of teachers and strong comprehensive strength. There are more than 1,75 faculty members and 648 teachers with senior professional and technical positions. Among the teachers, there are a number of famous teachers with outstanding achievements, such as academicians of China Academy of Sciences, Third World Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering, and national architectural design masters. Many teachers in the school have won the National "May 1st" Labor Medal, national advanced workers, young and middle-aged experts who have made outstanding contributions at the national and provincial levels, and famous teachers in colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province.
