Which is stronger, Huawei or Qualcomm's 5g?

This year's 5G is an unavoidable topic. When it comes to 5G, people will immediately say how strong Huawei 5G is, and then compare it with Qualcomm.

In fact, strictly speaking, Huawei and Qualcomm are not really competitive companies. After all, Qualcomm's main business is chips, making money by patents and chips. Huawei chips are not the main business, mainly relying on communication equipment and mobile phones to make money, followed by chips and patents. But today, we still compare the two in the field of direct competition. Who is stronger in the 5G field?

The first is the number of 5G patents. The main comparison here is the Global Standard Essential Patent (SEPs). After all, this part of the patent is the most valuable, and the value of other standards is not so high. According to the data of patent data company IPlytics, by the end of last year, Huawei had 1 166 SEPs patents in 5G, while Qualcomm had 730. It can be seen that Huawei is superior to Qualcomm in terms of the most valuable number of standard essential patents.

Secondly, the baseband chip is compared. It seems unfair to compare Qualcomm's X50 with Huawei's Ba Long 5000, so compare Qualcomm's X55 with Huawei's Ba Long 5000. Both sides are based on 7nm chips, but X55 is about half a year later than Huawei Ba Long, and there is not much difference in speed and performance from the parameters announced by both sides. However, Ba Long 5000 can reach 7.5Gbps at the earliest based on 5G NR+LTE mode, and its theoretical peak value is slightly better than that of Xiaolong X55.

It can be seen that in the field of 5G baseband chips, Huawei has a slight advantage over Qualcomm in terms of schedule and parameters. Finally, talk about market share. Huawei's baseband chips are not sold to the outside world, but only used in its own products, so its share is far less than that of Qualcomm. According to the data of 20 18, Qualcomm's baseband market share is over 50%, while Huawei's baseband market share is only about 7%, which is only one seventh of that of Qualcomm.

Obviously, Huawei lags far behind Qualcomm in market share, which is determined by the business models of both parties. After all, Huawei doesn't make money by selling chips. Therefore, the real strength of the two sides in the field of 5G can be summarized as follows: from the technical point of view, Huawei may have a slight advantage, while from the market point of view, Qualcomm has an absolute advantage.
