Dvorak keyboard details

Dvorak keyboard is a keyboard layout that groups commonly used letters together in order to increase typing speed. Designed by American August Dvorak in 1936. See picture for keyboard layout. The now common QWERTY keyboard is named after the six letters to the left of the first row of letters on the keyboard. This keyboard was patented by Chrisher Sholes in 1868 and later dominated the world. Basic introduction Chinese name: Dvorak keyboard Founder: Chrisher Sholes Purpose: Improve typing speed Introduction to keyboard layout, features, setting method, introduction to the history of Dvorak keyboard The current common QWERTY keyboard is named after the 6 letters to the left of the first row of letters on the keyboard Got its name. This keyboard was patented by Chrisher Sholes in 1868 and later dominated the world. One feature of this keyboard was that commonly used letters were intentionally separated to avoid tangling with the typebars in typewriters. Features With the development of technology, linkage rod tangles are no longer a problem. Therefore, in 1936, American August Dvorak designed another keyboard, which was called the Dvorak keyboard. Some experts suggest that for optimal typing speed, the keyboard should be designed as follows: (1) The load on the right and left hands should be equal. (2) Maximize the load of the middle row (home row). (3) The frequency of sequential alternation of two hands is maximized, and the frequency of the same fingers is minimized. In these areas, the Dvorak keyboard does a really good job: 67% of typing is done on the middle row, and the left-hand balance is 47%:53%. Most typing on the QWERTY keyboard is on the top row, and the left-hand balance is 57%:43%. However, the QWERTY keyboard places the keys that are hit continuously as far as possible, so it has an advantage in (3), which is beneficial to improving typing speed. Currently, the fastest English typing speed in the world is created on Dvorak keyboard. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Barbara Blackburn is currently the fastest typist in the world. In 2005, she typed continuously on a Dvorak keyboard for 50 minutes, averaging 150 words per minute and peaking at 212 words per minute. But no matter what, the Dvorak keyboard has not become popular, and the most versatile keyboard in the world is still the QWERTY keyboard. There is debate in academic circles about this incident. Some argue that this shows a flaw in the market that prevents the promotion of more efficient technologies due to user inertia. But some people disagree with this statement and think that Dvorak's faster typing speed is purely a myth. There is no evidence to show that the Dvorak keyboard is significantly faster than the QWERTY keyboard. In fact, from a technical point of view, Dvorak also has some shortcomings. For example: the letter I is used much more frequently than U, but its position is worse than U (adjusting this item does not affect other indicators). The letter R is used more frequently than NS, but its placement is not good enough. There are also CH, TR, ST, WH and other combinations that are not very smooth. I guess the reason for these shortcomings was mainly because the statistical and calculation conditions at that time were not very good. Now that the Internet provides statistics and computers do optimization, some better keyboard layouts have been produced. Setting method How to use the Dvorak keyboard scheme in Windows: 1. Right-click the input method status bar in the lower right corner of the screen, select "Settings", click "Add" in the pop-up window, and click "Keyboard Layout" in the dialog box "US English-Dvorak" can be found in /Input Method". This setting cannot change the keyboard layout of the Chinese input method. If you want to use the Dvorak layout when inputting Chinese, you need to modify the registry directly. Take smart ABC as an example. First click "Start/Run" on the lower left side of the system desktop, enter "regedit" and press Enter.

Then find the following primary key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layouts\E0040804] You can see "Layout File"="kbdus.dll" "Layout Text"="Chinese (Simplified) - Smart ABC" " IME File"="winabc.ime" Change kbdus.dll to KBDDV.DLL. Save, then restart the system and you're good to go. 2. Since different Chinese input methods handle keyboard layout in different ways, and different Windows programs handle keyboard layout differently, the one-and-done solution is to change the ScanCode Map of the keyboard. Specific method: 1.) Create a new binary item called ScanCode Map in \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Keyboard Layout, and set the content to Dvorak-related items. 2.) Copy the following content to the clipboard and save it as dvorak.reg. Run the import and then restart/log off: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout ]

"ScanCode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,22,00,00,00,2d,00,30,00,24,00 ,2e,00,\
