Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology is a full-time general institution of higher learning named after clothing in China, focusing on arts and crafts, with the coordinated development of arts, engineering, economy and management. The school was selected into the second batch of outstanding engineer education and training plan of the Ministry of Education. It is a national model university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, a typical experience university for innovation and entrepreneurship work of the Ministry of Education, and the first batch of Beijing model universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform.
The school was founded in February of 1959, formerly known as Beijing Textile Vocational and Technical College, and was affiliated to the Ministry of Textile Industry. 1961July was renamed Beijing Chemical Fiber Institute. 1987 was rebuilt and expanded into Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology. 1998 transferred from the Ministry of Textile Industry to Beijing as the main manager. On April 20 17, Beijing Environmental Art School was merged into Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, and the establishment of Beijing Environmental Art School was cancelled.
As of June, 2022, since the 13th Five-Year Plan, teachers have undertaken more than 1 100 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, 37 national social science fund projects, key research and development projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, national natural science fund projects and national art fund projects, including 1 national social science fund major projects and 4 national key research and development plan projects.
