BYD and Tesla started the new energy vehicle business at the same time, but they started differently.
Tesla is all electric. The first product is the Super Roadster, followed by the medium-sized and large-sized (C-class) car Model S and the medium-sized and large-sized (C-class) SUV Model X, followed by the medium-sized (B-class) car Model 3 and the medium-sized (B-class) SUV Model Y (Model 3 is called Class B due to the popularity of its long axle in the domestic market, and its actual vertical space is only A+ level in the domestic market). Big trucks and pickup trucks are still building momentum and have not been delivered yet. Tesla's route is obviously top-down, first building luxury brands, and then gradually exploring (or comparing with Audi, first building luxury brands in the domestic market with Audi 100 and Audi A6, and then gradually exploring the compact (A-class) car Audi A3).
BYD is making efforts on plug-in hybrid and pure electric routes. The first product is a compact (A-class) car F3DM. The most popular models are E5 and E6 which are suitable for taxis and online car rides, and the compact (A-class) car Qin series which can be used for online car rides at home. Pure electric/plug-in hybrid Tang and Han, which are cheaper than Tesla's low-end Model 3, are already BYD's flagship models. BYD pure electric dump truck enters and exits the construction site, covered in mud; BYD pure electric sanitation vehicle serves the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and is the hero behind the scenes. BYD pure electric buses sell well in domestic and foreign markets, and I believe many users in Zhihu have been to work. BYD's route is obviously bottom-up, positioning itself as a non-luxury brand, with both passenger cars and commercial vehicles, or BYD is the real Volkswagen.
There is no competition between BYD and Tesla, and the price range does not overlap. At present, the low-end standard endurance version of Tesla Model 3 (short-legged version, similar to Starbucks without small cups, only medium cups, large cups and super-large cups) has a small price overlap with BYD Tang and Han high-purity electric/plug-in hybrid models, so it is matched as a competitor. The low match of 34C coincides with the high match of Passat, Accord and Camry. Is it interesting to speculate that 34C is better than Passat, Accord and Camry?
