Male, Han nationality, born in February 1937, native of Wuxi, Jiangsu, member of Jiusan Society, started working in September 1958, graduated from the Department of Mathematical Mechanics of Peking University with a major in computational mathematics, university degree, professor, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

From 1954 to 1958, he studied computational mathematics in the Department of Mathematical Mechanics of Peking University. From 1958 to 1959, he was a teacher in the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of Peking University. From 1959 to 1978, he was a teacher in the Radio Department of Peking University. From 1978 to 1995, he was the director, associate professor and professor of the Institute of Computer Science, Peking University. From 1995 to 1996, he served as Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of Jiusan Society, Director of the Computer Research Institute of Peking University, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Founder Holdings Co., Ltd. From 1996 to 1998, he served as Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, Vice Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, Director of the Computer Research Institute of Peking University, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Founder Holdings Co., Ltd. In 1998, he served as deputy chairman of the Education, Science, Culture and Health Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, vice chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, and director of the Computer Research Institute of Peking University. In March 2003, he was elected as Vice Chairman of the 10th CPPCC National Committee at the First Session of the 10th CPPCC National Committee.

Died of illness in Beijing at around 11:00 on February 13, 2006. On February 19, the body was cremated at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in Beijing.

He is the founder and technical leader of the Chinese character laser phototypesetting system. In 1992, Wang Xuan successfully developed the world's first Chinese color phototypesetting system. He has won many awards including the Gold Medal of the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, the Gold Medal of China Patent Invention, the UNESCO Science Award, and the National Special Prize for the Development of Major Technical Equipment. He also won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award twice in 1987 and 1995; in 1985 and 1995 It has been listed among the top ten national scientific and technological achievements twice a year and is the only project in China that has won national awards four times. He himself has been awarded the title of national expert with outstanding contributions, and has been awarded the title of National and Beijing Model Worker, Advanced Worker, and Capital Model for many times. In 1987, he won the highest honor award in China's printing industry - the Bi Sheng Award and Nobuo Morisawa. Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award in 1995, and the National Highest Science and Technology Award in 2001.
