The school has more than 200 research institutions, including 2 national collaborative innovation centers (lead units), 4 national key laboratories, 1 national engineering technology research center, and 1 national engineering laboratory , 2 national and local joint engineering research centers, 3 national and local joint engineering laboratories, 1 national research institute, 1 national industry-education integration innovation platform, 5 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 3 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, There is 1 field scientific observation and research station of the Ministry of Education and 5 key research bases of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education. Xiamen University National University Science and Technology Park is one of the only two national-level university science and technology parks in Fujian Province recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education.
In the past five years, the school’s natural science research strength has been greatly improved. It has published 110 papers in high-level international academic journals such as Science, Nature, Cell and its sub-journals; it has won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award 4 first-class awards, 1 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award; 3 people won the "National Innovation Award", 3 people won the "China Youth Science and Technology Award", and 3 achievements won the China Patent Excellence Award. The school has strong research strength in humanities and social sciences. In the past five years, it has undertaken 21 major projects of the National Social Science Fund and 8 major research projects of philosophy and social sciences of the Ministry of Education; 16 of its achievements have won the Ministry of Education’s 7th College Research Excellence Award Achievement Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences), including 1 first prize; Xiamen University has formed its own characteristics in the fields of Taiwan Studies, Nanyang Studies, Higher Education Studies, Economic Research, Accounting Research, South China Sea Studies, etc., and its strength ranks among the top universities in China.
