Step 1. First open the word document, select the reference with the mouse, and click the numbering tool under the Home tab.
Step 2. Then click to define the new numbering format, enter the serial number with English square brackets, and click OK.
Step 3. Place the mouse cursor on the first reference point and click Cross Reference under the References tab.
Step 4. Select the corresponding first reference, click Insert, and use the same method to insert other citations.
Step 5. Then select the inserted reference symbol with the mouse and click the superscript symbol under the Home tab.
Step 6. Finally, insert a new citation, select the text, and right-click to update the field.
References:
References are documents that have been referred to in the writing process of articles or books, and relevant literature information resources cited for writing or editing papers and books.
The reference format includes: ① [serial number] main responsible person, ② document title [document type identifier], ③ place of publication: publishing house, ④ year of publication: starting and ending page numbers (optional). The punctuation marks in the references use the punctuation marks entered in English mode. After typing Chinese characters, switch to English mode and then enter the corresponding punctuation marks.

The difference between references and cited documents: the citation content of the two is different. References refer to a document that is used as a reference and reference in the written work or paper, while cited documents refer to the documents that cite this article.
