1. Nan Rendong is an astronomer and has been a top student since he was a child. Nan Rendong is a top student, which does not mean that he is a nerd. In fact, he has many interests and hobbies, such as painting, writing, etc.
When he grew up, he went to study in the best places in the world. However, in the end he chose his own country - China. He had a great wish, which was to build a very big "pot." It took him twenty-two years to build that "pot." He spent eleven years looking for where to build this "pot", looking for 300 places across China, and chose the lush mountains.
He is a person who is not afraid of hard work and perseveres. Even if he is sick, he must complete this mission. However, one day, he was sick, but he did not give up, he still had to finish. People saw his perseverance and supported him. This reminded me of a saying, "When you concentrate on doing something, the whole thing will be done." The world will make way for you." Day after day, the "pot" was finally built.
2. "People have to do something." This is what Nan Rendong often said during his lifetime. In order to find the most cost-effective site for the "China Sky Eye", the 500-meter spherical radio telescope FAST, he climbed over mountains and ridges with a bamboo pole and visited almost all the lowlands in the mountains of Guizhou. This search lasted 12 years. From site selection to project launch to equipment commissioning, "Sky Eye" was Nan Rendong's biggest concern. Until a few months before his death, he still insisted on attending FAST's regular engineering meetings.
Now, the "Father of the Sky Eye" who turned his black hair into white hair has closed his eyes forever, but the "Chinese Sky Eye" that he devoted his whole life to is standing in the southwest of the motherland, looking with wide eyes. The vast universe unknown to mankind. He and his team have made China the farthest country in the world.
3. On September 15, 2017, Mr. Nan Rendong, my country’s famous astronomer and “Father of Sky Eye”, passed away due to illness at the age of 72.
In the past 23 years, Nan Rendong has gone from his prime to his twilight years, turning a simple idea into a national weapon and achieving China's unique project in the world - the 500-meter caliber spherical surface The FAST radio telescope is often called the "China Sky Eye".
The "Sky Eye" can receive electromagnetic signals 13.7 billion light-years away, and the observation range can reach the edge of the universe. With this "eye in the sky", scientists can spy on information about interstellar interactions, observe dark matter, determine the mass of black holes, and even search for possible extraterrestrial civilizations.
