If you are a translator, what level of English or small languages do you need?

There is no threshold for translation in this industry, and it is easy to get started, even if it is level 4.

However, professional translation/interpretation has a hard threshold and requires level/ability. The client will test your level.

Professional translation/interpretation generally requires a master's degree in translation +CATTI 2 oral translation certificate+more than one million words of translation experience/more than 2 years of interpretation experience, or

Bachelor degree or above+CET-6 (non-English major)+translation experience of more than 3 million words+working experience in translation company!

Some high-end customers have high expectations for quality, but they are not stingy with cost; Individual top translators in the industry can charge up to 2000 yuan/thousand words.

-I'm Cha Hongyu, a freelance English translator. I have been engaged in translation for more than 6 years and have about 5 million words of Chinese-English translation experience. Depending on the difficulty and delivery date, the unit price of the manuscript produced by the translation company ranges from 150-220 (after the translation company changed hands, the client price doubled by 300-500 yuan/thousand words, after all, the customer development cost, translation cost, proofreading cost, typesetting cost, tax cost, office cost and company rent, etc.

A translator with my level and experience earns about 13000- 16000 a month (I am a freelance translator in Ji 'an, Jiangxi); Professional translation is hard, and it can only translate about 3000 words a day. Experienced, working long hours, earning 600-800 a day. If I work overtime (working hours 10- 12 hours), I can reach 1000- 1200 yuan. This kind of income is not a big problem to support the family in a small place. Compared with the financial, IT, legal, medical and other industries, this income is a bit low, so you need to love this industry very much, work hard and have feelings for this industry in order to stick to it! ! Therefore, I suggest you think it over before you enter the business. I disclose my salary only for your reference. I don't have any translation certificate. I studied computer in normal university and worked as a computer teacher in a middle school for three years. Prior to this, I worked as a full-time or part-time translator in Guangzhou Huiquan, Guangzhou Tianjie, Guangzhou FLE, CTIS National Bureau of Foreign Languages, Zhengzhou Creative Translation and other companies.

= The future translation will adopt the mode of artificial intelligence translation+manual proofreading. After 6-8 years, a large number of translators will be eliminated, which may reach 80% or even higher. Only by reaching a high level can we survive in the fierce competition. In my opinion, the emergence of artificial intelligence translation is not necessarily a bad thing, at least it will improve the overall level of the industry, speed up the translation progress through better technology, provide customers with higher quality communication, and reduce the translation cost of customers per word/time.
