Why is the National Speed Skating Hall also called the Ice Belt?

As the "Double Olympic City", after the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube, there is another national speed skating hall named "Ice Ribbon" in the landmark buildings of Beijing Olympic Games. This is why the integrated National Speed Skating Hall in Bian Xiao is also called the Ice Belt. Let's have a look.

Why is the National Speed Skating Hall also called the Ice Belt?

The National Speed Skating Hall, also known as the "Ice Belt", is surrounded by 22 glittering and translucent arc-shaped glass curtain walls, combined with bright and transparent ultra-white glass, symbolizing the skating track left by speed skaters on the ice. Complementing the "Bird's Nest" with a vigorous steel structure and the "Water Cube" with an intelligent membrane structure, * * * together constitutes the world's first landmark building complex of "Double Olympic City".

The design concept of the National Speed Skating Hall comes from an idea of combining ice with speed. The "ice belt" spirals from low to high along the surface of the outer wall, just like the fast track left by speed skaters when they slide at high speed. The ice is marked with ribbons, and 22 "ice ribbons" symbolize the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Brief introduction of national speed skating hall

The National Speed Skating Hall (Ice Belt) is located at No.2 Cui Lin Road, Chaoyang District, near the Olympic Park. The construction area of the main venue is about 80,000 square meters, which can accommodate about10.2 million people. It is the only newly-built ice competition venue in the Beijing main competition area of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The National Speed Skating Hall undertook the speed skating project of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and * * * produced 14 gold medals.

The venue was designed by Beijing Architectural Design and Research Institute. The design concept comes from the combination of ice and speed. These 22 ribbons are like traces of athletes gliding, symbolizing speed and passion, and also representing the year when the Beijing Winter Olympics was held.

On 20 17, the construction of the National Speed Skating Hall was started and completed on February 25th, 2020.

Functional Value of National Speed Skating Hall

The National Speed Skating Hall is a comprehensive venue for ice hockey, curling and avenue speed skating. After the Winter Olympics, the National Speed Skating Gymnasium will operate continuously for 365 days, becoming a sports and fitness venue with social service function and enterprise operation similar to the Water Cube and Bird's Nest, which not only provides training venues for athletes, but also meets the winter sports needs of Beijing citizens.

After the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022, the National Speed Skating Hall will become the center of excellence of the International Skating Union, holding all kinds of ice events all year round and extensively carrying out mass ice and snow sports, becoming a multi-functional venue for Beijing citizens to participate in sports ice sports, and becoming a multi-functional ice center integrating "sports events, mass fitness, cultural leisure, exhibitions and public welfare".

Ice-making Mode of National Speed Skating Hall

The National Speed Skating Hall uses carbon dioxide transcritical direct refrigeration to make ice. This technology is the most advanced and environmentally friendly ice-making technology in the world at present. The carbon emission value approaches zero, and the energy efficiency of ice-making is greatly improved. After the competition, the ice surface can be refrigerated in different zones, and the temperature of each ice can be controlled separately, so as to realize the "simultaneous operation and different use" of the stadium. Two key design schemes, the integrated design of ice-making system and the structural design of ice tray, have been patented. In order to build "the fastest ice", the ice plate structure of the National Speed Skating Hall was improved. It took more than 60 days to complete the welding of 8574 ice-making steel pipes, and the horizontal height difference of concrete ice plates was about 4 mm, which was very flat. The temperature difference on the ice surface is controlled within 0.5 degrees Celsius, which is beneficial for athletes to create good results.

The National Speed Skating Hall is the landmark venue of the Beijing main competition area of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and the only newly-built ice competition venue. Construction started on 20 16. As one of the venues of the 2022 China Winter Olympic Games, it will be opened to Beijing residents after the games, which will not only provide training venues for athletes, but also meet the needs of Beijing residents for winter sports. The National Speed Skating Hall will be used as the venue for the speed skating competition on the Avenue of Beijing Winter Olympics. It has the largest all-ice design in Asia, with an ice area of1.2000 square meters. Usually it can accommodate more than 2,000 people and carry out all ice sports such as ice hockey, speed skating, figure skating and curling.
