The key research directions of the Institute include: basic research on the establishment of national blood transfusion safety evaluation system, epidemiological research on blood transfusion-related diseases, detection and evaluation of blood transfusion-transmitted pathogenic microorganisms, virus inactivation of blood products, research on HLA and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, basic and applied research on cell therapy, especially umbilical cord blood stem cells, red blood cell type research, especially the screening of rare blood group and the construction of rare blood group bank. Construction of HLA reference laboratory of Ministry of Health, cell engineering products, genetic engineering drugs, human plasma protein products, red blood cell type serum diagnostic products, in vitro diagnostic reagents for thrombosis and hemostasis, rapid diagnostic reagents for transfusion-related diseases, transfusion and infusion equipment, etc. It has won 65 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research achievements and more than 2 national patents.
