The school was founded in 1937 and was originally named Gansu Province Chengxian Normal School. In 2001, it merged with Gansu Province Lixian Normal School and was renamed Longnan Normal School. In 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to Longnan Normal College. In December 2013, Longnan Agricultural Technical School and Chengxian Vocational Secondary School were merged into Longnan Normal College.
