Sanna's 14 chair is made of bent wood, and the design took several years to perfect. Because of its reasonable price and simple design, it has become one of the best-selling chairs in history. Between 1859 and 1930, about 50 million chairs numbered 14 were sold, and millions more were sold since then.
Sanna chair 14 is made of six pieces of wood bent by steam, ten screws and two nuts. The method of making wooden parts is to heat beech slats to100 C and press them into arc cast iron molds. And then dried at about 70 DEG C for 20 hours. These chairs can be mass-produced by unskilled workers and can be disassembled during transportation to save space.
This design is a response to the demand for cafe-style chairs. Seats are usually made of rattan or palm, because the small holes in the seat will let the spilled liquid flow down from the chair.
