Plate is one of the four major varieties of steel (plate, tube, profile, wire). In developed countries, steel plate production accounts for more than 50% of total steel production. With the development of my country's national economy, steel plate production has The volume gradually increases.
Steel plate is a flat steel material with a large width-to-thickness ratio and large surface area. Steel plates are divided into two specifications: thin plates and thick plates.
Thin steel plate is a steel plate with a thickness between 0.2-4mm produced by hot rolling or cold rolling. The width of thin steel plate is between 500-1400mm. According to different uses, thin steel plates are rolled from billets of different materials. Commonly used materials include plain carbon steel, high-quality carbon steel, alloy structural steel, carbon tool steel, stainless steel, spring steel and electrical silicon steel. They are mainly used in the automobile industry, aviation industry, enamel industry, electrical industry, machinery industry and other sectors. In addition to being delivered directly after rolling, thin steel plates are also available in pickled, galvanized and tin-plated varieties.
Thick steel plate is a general term for steel plates with a thickness of more than 4mm. In actual work, steel plates with a thickness less than 20mm are often called medium plates, and steel plates with a thickness of >20mm to 60mm are called thick plates. Thickness > The 60mm steel plate needs to be rolled on a special extra-thick plate rolling mill, so it is called extra-thick plate. The width of thick steel plates ranges from 0.6mm-3.0mm. Thick plates are divided into shipbuilding steel plates, bridge steel plates, boiler steel plates, high-pressure vessel steel plates, patterned steel plates, automobile steel plates, armor steel plates and composite steel plates according to their uses.
A branch of steel plate is steel strip. Steel strip is actually a very long thin plate with a relatively small width. It is often supplied in rolls and is also called strip steel. Steel strips are often produced on multi-stand continuous rolling mills. After being cut into fixed lengths, the steel strips are produced, so the productivity is higher than that of the single-stand mill.

(1) Ordinary medium and thick steel plates
1. Ordinary carbon steel boiling steel plates (GB3274-88)
Plain carbon steel boiling steel plate, as the name implies, is a steel plate made of hot rolling of boiling steel of ordinary carbon structural steel. Boiling steel is a kind of steel with incomplete deoxidation. The molten steel has a high oxygen content. When the molten steel is injected into the steel ingot mold, the carbon-oxygen reaction produces a large amount of gas, causing the molten steel to be in a boiling state, hence its name.
Boiling steel has low carbon content, and since ferrosilicon deoxidation is not required, the silicon content in the steel is often <0.07%. The outer layer of boiling steel is crystallized in the boiling state, so the surface layer is pure and dense, with good surface quality and good processing performance. Boiling steel does not have large concentrated shrinkage cavities, requires less deoxidizer, and has low steel cost. The core of boiling steel has many impurities, severe segregation, uneven mechanical properties, high gas content in the steel, low toughness, high cold brittleness and aging sensitivity, and poor welding performance, so it is not suitable for manufacturing and withstanding impact interception loads. Welded structural parts and other important structural parts working at low temperatures.

Plain carbon killed steel plate is a steel plate made by hot rolling of ordinary carbon structural steel killed steel billet. Killed steel is completely deoxidized steel. The molten steel is fully deoxidized with ferromanganese, ferrosilicon and aluminum before being injected into the ingot. The molten steel is relatively calm in the ingot mold and does not produce a boiling state, so it is called killed steel.
The advantage of killed steel is that the chemical composition is uniform, so the mechanical properties of each part are also uniform, the welding performance and plasticity are good, and the corrosion resistance is strong. However, the surface quality is poor, there are concentrated shrinkage holes, and the cost is also high.
