Project Background of Love of the Earth and Mother's Water Pit

Due to natural and historical reasons, some areas in the loess plateau of northwest China are extremely short of water. Some rainfall is only about 300-400 mm, but the evaporation is as high as 1500-2000 mm. According to the statistics of available water resources, the per capita available water resources are only 1 10 cubic meter, which is 15.3% of the national available water resources of 720 cubic meters. It accounts for 3.7% of the world's per capita available water resources of 2970 cubic meters. People and livestock there use water almost entirely by collecting limited rainwater artificially. A container built underground to collect rainwater is called a water cellar. Because there is not enough money to harden the concrete in this water cellar, leakage will soon occur. The severe situation of water shortage leads to the poor life of local farmers, primitive production, backward education, high morbidity and neonatal mortality of women, and women bear several times the heavy responsibility of life in normal environment.

In order to help people there, especially women, get rid of poverty and backwardness caused by severe water shortage quickly, under the leadership of the All-China Women's Federation, the China Women's Development Foundation implemented a plan to raise funds from the society, and donated concrete water cellars to the water-deficient areas in northwest China, so that they can effectively collect limited rainwater for basic drinking water for one year by using water collection facilities such as roofs, yards and ditches.

The China Women's Development Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps women. We hold high the banner of maternal love, advocate social care for women who lack water, and benefit others by donating water cellars. We call the donated water cellar "mother cellar".

"Love the Earth" is an eternal theme, and "Mother's Water Cellar" is a special assistance action, so our plan is called "Love the Earth and Mother's Water Cellar" project, which contains the dual artistic conception of loving mother and maternal love.

Under the leadership of the All-China Women's Federation, it has won enthusiastic support from all walks of life through the launch of women's Federation networks at all levels and the strong participation of the media. By the end of 2000, the China Women's Development Foundation had raised a total of1.65,438+0.6 billion yuan. The China Women's Foundation set up this donation as a special fund of "Love of the Earth, Mother's Water Pit", and from February 2006, 5438+0, put the money into the water-deficient areas in the west.

Practice has proved that building a water cellar with a volume of 36 cubic meters can collect about 50-80 cubic meters of rainwater a year, which can ensure a family of 3-5 people to drink water for one year; With two puddles, one acre of garden cash crops can be developed, thus solving a series of problems of survival and development. According to experts' evaluation, it is the simplest, most economical and most practical method to effectively use rainwater resources to solve the water shortage problem by building rainwater collection pits in areas with serious water shortage.
