Gu's Character Life

Editor-in-chief of Chemical Engineering Calculation, Petroleum Preparation, Introduction to Turbulent Heat Transfer, and co-editor of Chemical Process and Equipment.

Gu holds the belief of contributing to the development of chemical industry in China. While studying hard, she also took every opportunity to understand the present situation and development of chemical industry in western countries. During his study in the United States, he visited not only many factories, but also ammonium sulfate factories, artificial gasoline factories, textile factories and rayon factories in Britain and Germany from 65438 to 0932.

1933 After returning to China, he served as the director of the office and branch of Nanjing Industrial Laboratory. In the process of studying liquid fuel substitutes, he also went to the Philippines to investigate the industrial facilities where alcohol replaces gasoline.

In order to develop China's chemical industry, 1934, he set up China Alcohol Factory in Pudong, Shanghai, and also conducted scientific research on cracking vegetable oil to make liquid fuel.

From 65438 to 0937, he went to Japan to inspect the chemical industry and rayon industry.

From 65438 to 0938, after Nanjing Central Industrial Research Institute moved to Beibei, Sichuan, it continued its experiments in oil and brewing. In recent years, he has published more than 20 papers and investigation reports on rayon, alcohol instead of gasoline, soybean industry and oil industry in China Industry and Monthly of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

1940 successfully experimented with "calcium chloride dehydration method to make high-concentration alcohol", obtained a patent, and began to investigate the alcohol industry to guide factory production.

1943 wrote the article "Ten Years of China Petroleum Industry", which was published in the 10th anniversary of chinese chemical society Chemistry. Gu systematically studied the effects of various factors on oil yield when soybean oil, rapeseed oil, cottonseed oil, tung oil, sesame oil, castor oil and peanut oil were pressed, and summarized them into equations. His work has greatly promoted the production and development of the petroleum industry.

After the victory of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Gu was appointed as the acting director of the Central Industrial Laboratory, 1947 was transferred to Beiping to build an industrial laboratory, and 1948 was appointed as the director of Beiping Industrial Laboratory. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he resigned from the industrial laboratory and was employed as a professor in the Department of Chemistry of Tongji University, teaching courses on chemical engineering principles and industrial chemistry, and concurrently taking courses on chemical engineering principles, grease chemistry and grease industry in Fudan University, Hujiang University and Wuxi Jiangnan University.

1952 national department adjustment, Gu went to Shanghai East China Institute of Chemical Technology to teach, and has been the director of the teaching and research group of chemical engineering principles and chemical engineering. Gu has been engaged in teaching for a long time and deeply feels that it is urgent to strengthen the construction of teaching materials, establish an independent and complete teaching material system in China as soon as possible, and effectively improve the teaching quality. To this end, he wrote and published books such as Liquid Fuel, Oil Making and Chemical Calculation. 1957, he edited and published the book Chemical Process and Equipment together with Professor Zhang Hongyuan of Chengdu University of Technology and Professor Ding Xuhuai of Tianjin University. This is the first general textbook of chemical engineering principles in colleges and universities in China, which has been reprinted, revised and issued many times. For decades, it has been the main teaching material and teaching reference book of the principle of chemical engineering. The book "Chemical Engineering Calculation" edited by Gu has been reprinted for 9 times, and it is a popular teaching reference book for teachers and students in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Gu is engaged in busy teaching work and chemical engineering specialty construction in East China Institute of Chemical Technology, while making unremitting scientific research.

Since the late 1950s, people have focused on the momentum and heat transfer in turbulence, such as liquid metal heat transfer and non-Newtonian fluid heat transfer. These studies are based on the present situation of chemical industry in China, the combination of theory and practice, strengthening technology and equipment, and improving productivity. According to the theoretical analysis, he put forward the method of strengthening heat transfer, which achieved good results in heat strengthening ring, vortex tube heat transfer and adding a small amount of solid particles in gas to strengthen heat transfer, and was directly popularized in industrial production.

The topic of "study on spouted bed grain drying" is an example of guiding industrial production practice with theoretical research results. Through this study, two new technologies, multi-stage spouting and conduit spouting, were put forward, which solved the problem of mildew caused by poor drying technology before grain storage. Based on years of research experience, Gu compiled an Introduction to Turbulent Heat Transfer, which was published by Shanghai Science and Technology Publishing House with the number 1964. Hou, then vice minister of chemical industry and chemical expert, personally prefaced the book. This is the first book in Gu's chemical engineering series. Regrettably, during the Cultural Revolution, Gu was persecuted and died prematurely in July 1968.
