ESP system is actually a traction control system. Compared with other traction control systems, ESP can control not only the driving wheel but also the driven wheel. For example, rear-wheel drive cars often turn too much. At this time, the rear wheel is out of control and the ESP will slow down the outer front wheel to stabilize the car. When the steering is too little, ESP will slow down the inner rear wheel to correct the tracking direction, thus correcting the driving direction. ESP system is an important system in automobile, which usually supports ABS and ASR. It helps the vehicle to maintain dynamic balance by analyzing the information of vehicle running state from various sensors and then sending rectification instructions to ABS and ASR. ESP can keep the vehicle in the best stability in all situations, especially in the case of oversteer or understeer. ESP generally needs to install steering sensor, wheel sensor, sideslip sensor, lateral acceleration sensor, etc.
Because Bosch has obtained the patent of this technology, similar products of other companies use different names, such as DSC system.
