What is the use of CMC-Na in pharmacy?

The pharmaceutical use of CMC-Na is carboxymethyl ether of cellulose, not salt. Used as thickener in food industry, drug carrier in pharmaceutical industry, adhesive and anti-retrogradation agent in daily chemical industry. Used as sizing agent and protective colloid for printing paste in printing and dyeing industry. It can be used as a component of fracturing fluid for oil production in petrochemical industry.

CMC-Na is a cellulose derivative. The degree of polymerization of glucose is 100~2000, and the relative molecular weight is 242.38+06. White fibrous or granular powder. Odorless, hygroscopic, soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, ether and trimethylmethane.

Extended data

Incompatibility (of drugs)

1. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is incompatible with strong acid solution, soluble iron salt and some other metals such as aluminum, mercury and zinc. When the PH¢2 is below 2, precipitation will occur when it is mixed with 95% ethanol.

2. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose can form a condensate with gelatin and pectin, or a complex with collagen, which can precipitate some positively charged protein.
