Pingding is located in the middle right section of Taihang Mountain. It is located in a strategic location and has always been a battleground for military strategists. It borders Jingxing and Pingshan, Hebei Province to the east, Shouyang to the west, Xiyang to the south, and the suburbs of Yangquan City and Yu County to the north, with an area of ??1,353 square kilometers and a population of 320,000. In the Paleolithic Age, our ancestors already lived and settled here. From the summer to the Qin Dynasty, the ownership changed frequently. From the early Han Dynasty to the Song Dynasty, it was established as a county. In the Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was a prefecture.

Pingding has a long history of making pottery and porcelain. White porcelain has been produced as early as the Tang Dynasty. There are 130 Song kiln counties in the country, and Pingding is among them. It belongs to the ancient Ding kiln system and was formerly known as "West Kiln". In the Qing Dynasty, it was one of the major porcelain-producing counties in Shanxi and became Shanxi. One of the four major "Tugong" kilns. Guanzhuang Village, Pingding, where carved porcelain was spread, had a porcelain kiln in the early Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. It was still the hometown of Pingding porcelain until after liberation. This is an important source of the spread of carved porcelain.

In the mid-1990s, father and son Zhang Cong, Zhang Wenliang and their second sons Hong Liang and Weiliang, who are masters of arts and crafts in Shanxi Province and representative inheritors of Pingding carved porcelain, an intangible cultural heritage protection project in Shanxi Province, The "Zhang's Ceramics Workshop" was founded in the 1980s and went through many hardships, allowing Pingding carved porcelain, a national treasure, to be inherited and innovated. In September 2006, Pingding County was named the "Hometown of China's Engraved Porcelain" by the China National People's Association and other organizations; Zhang Cong's family was awarded the honorary title of "Home of Engraved Porcelain Art"; in the same year, Zhang Cong and his son were the main applicants. Pingding Wenliang Engraved Porcelain Sand Ware Research Institute is dedicated to the research, development, production and sales of Pingding Engraved Porcelain and other fine art ceramics. It is a group member of the China Ceramics Industry Association and a member of Shanxi Province's arts and crafts masters Zhang Cong and Zhang Wenliang. The studio is the governing unit of the Shanxi Ceramics Society and the inheritor unit of Pingding carved porcelain. In November 2007, Zhang Cong and Zhang Wenliang and their son were included in the "General Survey of China's Intangible Cultural Heritage" and the "Guide to Chinese Folk Art Famous Artists". In April 2008, the work "Engraved Black Glaze" by Zhang Cong, a master of carved porcelain, was permanently collected by the National Museum; in September of the same year, the Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture awarded the Engraved Porcelain Ceremony to Zhang Cong and Zhang Wenliang, the father and son of Pingding carved porcelain. Since the establishment of our institute, on the basis of retaining the original types of carved porcelain, we have made new breakthroughs in glaze color and variety, and have successively launched kiln-style carved porcelain. Variety of flower porcelain, matte porcelain, antique open slices, kiln crystallization and other varieties. Among them, the processes of carved porcelain "Dragon and Phoenix Pairing" and "Kiln Transformation Engraved Porcelain" have applied for relevant patent protection respectively. In January 2009, the State Trademark Office officially accepted the application for the registered trademark of "Zhang Wenliang" engraved porcelain.
