How to remove the rear brake disc of BMW 5 Series

Pacific Automotive Network 1. First remove the brake pad retaining snap ring. 2. Remove the dust cover of the floating guide pin. 3. Use the inner hexagon to loosen the floating guide pin. 4. Remove the floating clamp. 5. Remove the old brake pads. 6. The floating caliper must be hung with a hook.

1. First of all, we need to determine the standards for parts replacement before replacement. Of course, special measuring tools are indispensable.

2. First remove the wheel and measure the actual thickness of the brake pad, which shows 4mm (the limit is 3mm).

3. Measure the actual thickness of the brake disc and read the value of the caliper as 27.9mm.

4. Check the limit position on the end face of the brake disc. The limit position of this model is 28.4mm. Note: Install new brake pads only when the thickness of the brake disc is greater than the "MINTH" size.

5. According to the measurement results, the brake disc and brake pad must be replaced immediately. The next step is to remove the brake pad retaining snap ring.

6. Remove the dust cover of the floating guide pin.

7. Use the inner hexagon to loosen the floating guide pin.

8. Remove the floating caliper

9. Remove the old brake pad 1

0. The floating caliper must be hung with a hook.

Note: Bundle the brake caliper at a high location and do not let it hang from the brake hose.

1. Use the sleeve to loosen the brake caliper bracket 1

2. Remove the brake caliper bracket 1

3. Loosen the brake disc positioning Screw 1

4. Remove the old brake disc and be careful to drop it.

5. Check the flange contact surface. If there is rust stain, it must be cleaned and sprayed with anti-rust agent, otherwise it will cause early deformation and damage of the new plate.

Gand the rust stains and spray them with anti-rust agent 1

6. Clean the slide rails. In order to ensure that the brake pads slide freely on the slide rails, the slide rails of the bracket must be cleaned and the brakes applied. This is also a very important step in the whole process.

The red circle in the picture is the cleaned slide rail that needs to be cleaned.

7. Next, prepare to install new brake discs and pads. Note: fake products are currently rampant in the market. You must ensure the quality and supply channels of parts. After all, braking is the most critical to ensure safe driving. system.

The friction materials of brake discs and brake pads are adjusted and calibrated by the manufacturer according to the parameters of the vehicle model and are protected by patents. Any supporting factory or foundry is not allowed to use this material, so car owners should pay attention. , any seller who says "BMW's brake pads are manufactured by XX and are the same as the original ones is wrong.

7. Next we should install the prepared parts Install the brake disc and fix the positioning screw. The tightening torque of the screw is 16Nm.

8. Install the fixed brake caliper bracket and tighten the fixing screw. The tightening torque is 110Nm. 9. Apply brake pad ointment. In order to avoid damaging the surface coating, try not to clean the brake pad guide surface on the brake caliper bracket mechanically. Instead, clean it with detergent, and then apply a thin layer of BMW part number: 83192158852 (100 gray) brake friction pad paste

Apply the position of the bracket slide rail

10. Check the brake fluid level and use a special tool to reset the brake cylinder. Before starting, the brake fluid level must be checked. If the position is too high, excess brake fluid must be drained out. Otherwise, the brake fluid will overflow and corrode other parts and paint surfaces during expansion.
