The electric light was not invented by Edison.
Throughout the history of the invention of electric light, there is one person who cannot but mention: Joseph Wilson Swan, a British chemist and physicist. 1860, Swan made the carbon filament electric lamp 20 years earlier than Edison. Unfortunately, he failed to obtain a good vacuum environment to keep the carbon wire working for a long time. It was not until 1878 that the vacuum technology in Britain developed to the required level that he invented a light bulb powered by carbon wire under vacuum and obtained a British patent. Swan's own house is the first private house with electricity lighting in Britain.
Edison's research on light bulbs began at 1875. 1874, two electrical technicians in Canada applied for a patent for electric light: nitrogen was filled under a glass bulb and a carbon rod was electrified to emit light, but they did not have enough financial resources to continue to improve this invention, and sold the patent to Edison in 1875. After Edison bought the patent, he tried to improve the filament and tested more than 1600 materials. 1 879101October 2 1,1a carbonized cotton thread with a diameter of 0.025 cm was used as a filament and lit for 45 hours. Edison didn't make a bamboo filament lamp that can light continuously for 1200 hours until 1880.
Because Swan and Edison invented the electric light almost at the same time, they also fought a lawsuit for the invention right of the electric light in history. In Britain, Swan sued Edison for patent infringement. Later, they settled out of court and set up a joint company in Britain on 1883. But later, Swan sold his rights and patents to Edison.
