The author of "The Little Prince" and his introduction:
Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944) was born in Lyon, France. He served in the French Air Force from 1921 to 1923. He was a reserve pilot, and later became a civil aviation pilot, participating in the opening of international routes from France to Africa to South America. During this period, he was also engaged in literary writing, and his works include "Southern Flight", "Night Flight" and so on.
In 1939, German fascists invaded France. In view of the fact that Saint-Exupéry had been injured many times, doctors believed that he could no longer enlist in the army. After insisting, he participated in the Anti-German War and was incorporated into the 2/33 Air Force Reconnaissance Group. When France was defeated in the war in 1940, his unit suffered heavy losses and was transferred to Algiers. He was subsequently demobilized and fled to the United States alone.
While in the United States, he continued to write and published "Combat Pilot", "Letter to a Hostage" and "The Little Prince".
In 1943, at his strong request, he returned to Algiers, the French anti-war base in North Africa. Taking into account his physical condition and age, his superiors only allowed him to fly five missions, but he requested eight. On the morning of July 31, 1944, he sailed on his eighth mission and never came back. He was only 44 years old when he died.
