What's the difference between UPLC and HPLC?

UPLC is ultra-high performance liquid chromatography. HPLC is a traditional high performance liquid chromatography.

UPLC has the following advantages:

1. High resolution According to the resolution equation of liquid chromatography separation, the resolution is directly proportional to the square root of column efficiency, while according to Van Deemter chromatography theory, the column efficiency is inversely proportional to the particle size of the stationary phase of the system. The particle size of the stationary phase used in UPLC system can reach1.7 μ m. According to the above equation, the efficiency of the system will be 70% higher than that of the 5μm particle size system and 40% higher than that of 3.5 μ m.

2. High speed On the premise of ensuring the same quality data, UPLC can provide more information in a unit time. Small particle size can provide higher analysis speed and reduce column length without affecting resolution. According to Van Deemter chromatographic theory, the optimal flow rate is inversely proportional to the particle size.

3. Sensitivity
